  • Trifolium You know what time it is? Indigo Jam Unit o'clock! Don't you think this type of vibe is so ultimately Japanese? They're very good with nostalgic and slightly melancholic feelings. Ah, this band.
    January 17 06:26 PM
  • MiloRuggles This should be shared with you. I'm going bush for a couply days, use this at doth will. Feel free to paraphrase me and make me look like Mao or something, whatever works for your review:
    January 17 11:54 AM
  • MiloRuggles Just got started on a bunch of words, but off to work now. Expect something (potentially incomplete, but hopefully humorous, and to adapt as you see fit) in your pigeonhole in about 12 hours. On that note, what's the easiest way to send it to you?
    January 16 10:45 PM
  • MiloRuggles If you search up Patrick Rishan (don't judge) under users there's an 'upload to user' function if you right click the name when it pops up. Maybe that'll work? Otherwise if you wanna make a mega link or something that could be easier
    January 15 10:14 PM
  • MiloRuggles Haha ****, I'm not much better mate, this is a nightmare. Can't see your files, are you sharing anything?
    January 15 10:12 PM
  • MiloRuggles You wanna jump online and give me your username? I've got a spare 30 min or so. This week's been pretty hectic for me and I'm away this weekend, so hopefully I can give you a little somethin by late tomorrow night NZT
    January 15 10:06 PM
  • MiloRuggles Haven't been able to suss it on slsk yet. You got an account on there?
    January 15 10:02 PM
  • SandwichBubble Nope, I'll check them out though. Thanks!
    January 12 05:43 AM
  • MiloRuggles Sweet sweet, I'll see what comes pouring out of me when I give it a listen and send it your way? Happy to play around with form if you've got ideas, just let me know
    January 11 11:44 PM
  • MiloRuggles Yes boi, chuck the name and due date my way
    January 11 10:09 PM
  • Trifolium That sounds weird. They used to be so bubbly and happy, is that at least still there?
    January 8 07:43 AM
  • AnimalsAsSummit Ok will try to get that set up this week, thanks!
    January 6 10:17 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit Hmmm I don't have discord. Is it a site or something I download?
    January 6 08:34 PM
  • DDDeftoneDDD pretty good **** off
    January 3 11:11 AM
  • ArsMoriendi Sure, but drop the rec on the causal con thread
    January 2 08:58 PM
  • Trifolium Oh yeah I know of Hiromi. I own Spiral, like it but don't really love it and never feel the urge to listen to it. Have to be in a very specific mood for that one.
    December 31 08:14 AM
  • Trifolium Oops, Sput and weird post-breakage. I meant to say Soil And Pimp Sessions. They rule too. I'll think about others but I don't know whether there are any.
    December 28 08:04 AM
  • Trifolium Yessss, very happy about the Indigo Jam Unit, but no Krush is sad! Do you know Soil
    December 28 08:02 AM
  • discovolante Absolutely, man. Starting to look like a storage facility lol, but I love it lol.
    December 25 11:42 PM
  • Frippertronics Admittedly, probably not. Ball's in your court if you want it.
    December 25 11:35 PM
  • Trifolium Ahaha, no way! I even checked whether you had that rated. Chose exactly the right one then it seems haha. Good to know, going to check the others too because this is very good.
    December 25 12:18 AM
  • Trifolium Hey Johnny! Merry Christmas! But that wasn't what I came here to say. Do you know these guys? I'm only just now listening to the first few tracks of the debut for the first time, but it rules.
    December 24 11:44 PM
  • discovolante Ahh man, I haven?t downloaded albums in a loooong time since I prefer physical copies these days. Sorry man. I?d say to maybe search for some links of it?
    December 24 10:06 PM
  • TabulaRasa6 Anytime, Johnny boy.
    December 24 06:03 AM
  • MiloRuggles Just replied in my own box haha. Yeah, sounds good, let me know the gritty details when the time is right
    December 21 09:14 PM
  • MiloRuggles Sure! What's on the mind Johnny boy?
    December 21 08:55 PM

    December 20 04:49 AM
  • GhandhiLion Live Skull rating noice.
    December 20 03:13 AM
  • Trifolium This sounds pretty good, but it's not really my preferred style. I really like my techno to be ultra empty, less glitchy and noisy than this. Colder. More like Benjamin Damage - Cosmonaut, or Plastikman - EXpand. Paul Kalkbrenner - Gutes Nitzwerk. Or this:
    December 19 08:49 AM
  • discovolante Nah, unfortunately it?s not legit as I didn?t find any official SEL merch at the time. But since I was a high schooler obsessed with it, I had to have something! Lol. And it looks pretty badass too, so I was happy lol.
    December 17 06:59 AM
  • discovolante Lain is one of the best anime series of all time. I still have my red Lain shirt somewhere in my room lol.
    December 16 10:19 AM
  • Trifolium Oh my it's a super cute and happy album. Very glad I bought it after hearing just a few tracks. Hope to check that EP later this weekend, probably Sunday.
    December 13 06:59 PM
  • Tchitcherine And do you know Terror Jr? The new album is very nice, especially 'Loner', 'Isolation' and a few other tracks.
    December 13 10:22 AM
  • Tchitcherine Do you mean swimming classroom? Or did she somehing new? I love swimming classroom, already rated it. My name is from a book by thomas pynchon, 'Gravity's Rainbow', the character is a bit ****ed up like most of the characters, but i can recommend it highly. From which anime is your profile pic?
    December 13 10:11 AM

    December 12 07:07 PM
  • SandwichBubble Glad you dug it! I know I kind of overdid it, but let me know if you end up checking the other two.
    December 12 01:04 PM
  • Trifolium Haha, I already had a hunch it would be good, not like you were going to say DON'T EVER listen to it because it SUCKS!!! That would certainly be unexpected. I'll check it for sure!
    December 12 08:33 AM
  • Trifolium No I don't think so. Or it must have been written in Japanese characters haha. Is it really good?
    December 12 07:17 AM

    November 30 05:51 PM
  • TrantaLocked Mocking me left and right in the thread and expecting anything from me. You come to me and ask to make one small change to my final comment. No, how about not being a hypocritical tool and THEN talk to me.
    November 30 05:39 PM
  • TrantaLocked Stop posting in my thread and be happy I haven'td everything else. You and the others will be getting talked to by the mods if you continue to troll in the thread. 99% of my last two comments are true and should be the final word to the thread's debate points. I'm done with the trolling.
    November 30 05:31 PM
  • TrantaLocked "The irony that pretty much every A7X lead worth remembering is harmonised""Shut up pit you - and I quote - "Asshole" l o l""yeah sint but how partial to tonality are you really huh but you're like 6/10 partial at best lol""damn you're pretty strong holding on like that, but i bet you could never make a list like this you'd have to be at least 8.4/10"
    November 30 05:28 PM
  • TrantaLocked Why would I respect your request when you're the one that convinced everyone of something I didn't even do (I did mean to say melody and know what it means, and you're the one that convinced everyone else I didn't know what melody is), you trolled about multiple things and mocked me multiple times. Who the **** are you to think you deserve anything from me? For all anyone cares you ****ed a goat. You deserve no respect from me or anyone as a result of your behavior in the thread.

  • MiloRuggles Awesome, I'll try track it down once I'm not at work (it's been a particularly productive day as you might be able to tell). I'm excited about the fact the Shiina Ringo is in the 'similar artists' bar, but also expect it to be far less pleasant haha
    November 27 04:14 AM

  • GhandhiLion I haven't listened to that one. It's the highest rated on here and rym so it's probably good. I have not heard Seiko Oomori, other than Kitixxxgaia. Are her earliest recordings worth listening to or?

    November 15 05:19 PM
  • MiloRuggles Good to hear you're into it, it stands up to modern stuff quite well I think.I am struggling a fair bit as I love the band's music, so I'm also desperately trying to balance praise and scathing criticism while trying to be funny. It's a real juggling act that's requiring a lot of words haha
    November 14 10:44 PM
  • MiloRuggles Haha I don't wanna pester you too much as your work ethic is more than admirable as things stand, but just know that I sigh internally whenever I refresh the front page and don't see plaid getting the love they deserve (assuming you actually like the album).I'm working on a Deathspell omega review that also clarifies the nature of their alleged connections to organised racism. Going well, but very comprehensive and my ambition is slowing me down haha
    November 14 09:04 PM
  • SowingSeason No worries, done
    November 14 09:02 PM
  • SowingSeason It's up. Due to time constraints on my end, I pretty much just ported over what you gave me and formatted it correctly for our blog. If you want anything added - say, a preamble or spotify playlist of the songs - just shoot it over to me and I'll plug it in!
    November 14 07:25 PM
  • SowingSeason Cheers. It may take me a while to format things because the blog code is a bit different from the usual site code, but I'll shoot you a heads up when it's published!
    November 14 05:36 PM
  • Archelirion Mr Well! Wanted to ask if you were reviewing the new Hakushi Hasegawa album at all, or had any plans to? It's absolutely bloody fantastic. I'll do it if you're not, but your continued crusade of introducing Sputnik to Japanese music has been a beautiful, beautiful thing so you can have dibs :]
    November 14 01:38 PM
  • MiloRuggles I've been following (and enjoying) your reviews and figured that your productivity signaled that you'd given up on poor old Plaid! I'm still excited to read it!Yeah doing well, thanks. Lost my password for a while, and I'm now cooking up a review that's taking a fair amount of research. Here's hoping it pans out well!
    November 8 05:12 AM
  • OmairSh I actually recorded a couple of improv performances if you're interested :-D
    November 6 12:09 AM
  • OmairSh Yeah man it's been a minute. My activity has been a bit sporadic on here over the past year or so. Japan eh? Very cool! How come Japan? I'm good man. Started a new job over a month ago, settling in. Started kickboxing recently and trying to keep busy with activities I enjoy like acting
    November 6 12:09 AM
  • FrozenVain Yo, man. I never did join that Japanese music discord group. I haven't been very active here in a long time...Is it still up and running? Got my motivation back.
    November 4 02:42 PM
  • Trifolium Hello J of the W! Just a quick visit to tell that those Advantage Lucy guys and girl are super cool. Another great rec! I've only checked the compilation because that's the one on YouTube but it rules. What's your fave by them?
    November 2 08:53 PM
  • OmairSh Hey dude, how've you been man? Long time. Forgot you were a contrib for a sec haha
    October 28 09:44 PM
  • Trifolium Johnny that comment contained so many great things it's making me happy. Reading books, Alcest, Supercar, those LAMA guys. I really liked the record too on first spin (Modanica). Couldn't find the other one but I'll concentrate on this one for now.
    October 27 09:10 AM
  • Trifolium They've made some amaaaazing records, really dig their sound. I assume from peeking at your ratings that you didn't actively listen to them yet? Can't go wrong really and the averages are quite accurate here. So far that new one seems like a good addition to their discog, on it now and I'm not disappointed.
    October 26 07:24 PM
  • Trifolium Cool! Thanks, they're going on the list! I need to hear the new Alcest first. Kind of ambivalent towards that one and I'm not sure why exactly. Weird and scary :-(
    October 26 07:04 PM
  • Aberf on another note, I've been jamming this track non-stop
    October 25 02:12 AM
  • TheMightyScoop sick recs man. thx
    October 25 02:11 AM
  • Aberf I love shoegaze and I don't mind vocaloid music, so when I discovered a breed for both, I was blown away on how excellent the album is. You can invite me of course, although I don't really listen to music as much nowadays. Abe#2560 is my tag.
    October 24 11:33 PM
  • Dewinged Daaaamn, sorry dude, been hella busy with Sol's live show this week, gotta do a playlist and jam them all. Will try to do it later!
    October 23 02:15 AM
  • SowingSeason I'm in no rush and likely will need some time myself to assemble it. Once everything is 100% just shoot me a heads up and I'll start piecing it together in my spare time!
    October 21 11:57 PM
  • SowingSeason OK so should I wait on creating the post, then, until all loose ends are tied?
    October 21 11:48 PM
  • SowingSeason looks good! what should I do with incomplete entries such as dewi's?
    October 21 11:21 PM
  • Pikazilla pikawithoutyou :'(
    October 20 11:12 PM
  • Azertherion I'll make sure to listen to Points again ! I wasn't as convinced with the electro parts when I gave it a first shot, but maybe they've grown on me in the meantime
    October 16 07:49 AM
  • Azertherion which is possibly bound to her apparent psychosis throughout the series, even though it becomes less "obviously apparent" the more the series go. One sure thing is that I loved watching it, the artistic direction and the approach they took to delevop the series' themes were simply captivating. It was pretty hard to sit through Lain's unstoppable descent into the virtual chaos, but one other aspect that makes this series so great is how prescient it is. A classic for sure
    October 16 07:47 AM
  • Azertherion Is she actually a program created by the Wired "god" (aka the first posthuman) ? Unlikely since she does have a physical body (that she doesn't abandon). Is she a human ? Probably, but her family is a big question mark (her "father" himself leaves her at the end, implying she's some kind of virtual goddess entity, seemingly indicating that her whole family was a lie - although it could have been an hallucination); and obviously, her identity shattering through the Wired
    October 16 07:26 AM
  • Azertherion Her persona issues suddenly stop being prominent after the 10th episode where Lain explains that the other lains were the Lains created by the representation other Wired people had of her in the Wired; while it doesn't give a proper explanation for a lot of the events that occured prior to that point (the shooting ? the psyche chip her double "left" at Cyberia ? the confrontation with the men in Black ?), it feeds more to the main question of the ending, Lain's nature and identity
    October 16 07:21 AM
  • Trifolium Hi Johnny! I've got a question concerning a new release, slated for November 1st, Underworld's Drift. Do you perhaps know whether a contributor is going to review it? I'm planning to do it myself but not at the risk of doing work you guys are also going to do. Staff isn't going to do it.
    October 16 06:16 AM
  • ArsMoriendi It?s a 5/5 to me and while it?s technically considered prog, it?s like prog in a sad, mellow, weird jazzy kinda way. A really unique record that I think you?d like.
    October 15 02:37 PM
  • neekafat lucky I checked this during my lunch, I'll get on that (;
    October 14 09:13 PM
  • Uzumaki Soundscoolsoundscoolsoundscool!!!
    October 14 02:13 AM
  • ArsMoriendi Have you checked Rock Bottom by Robert Wyatt?
    October 13 11:40 PM
  • Saros Neat. Might have to check it sometime. Your review of it certainly has me interested.
    October 13 06:16 AM
  • clavier hm, after returning back i see why it wasn't up there ? an interesting but somewhat messy album imo
    October 13 03:34 AM
  • clavier funny you say that, Kidcrash are one of those bands that I've always been aware of but never really dived into ? will give them another chance!
    October 13 02:20 AM
  • Lucman I'll put it on today's listening schedule! You've got me hyped.
    October 13 01:49 AM
  • Azertherion I'm really hooked so far I got to say, the way the series navigates between virtuality and mental illness creates a double ambiguity for the spectator, as it's hard to tell whether some elements are the result of the Wired distording reality or if Lain's psychotic symptoms are kicking in. It's really interesting to see how the Wired gives structure to her persona while dragging her away from reality in the same time.
    October 11 03:54 PM
  • Azertherion I don't think so; I stopped after episode 6, which was certainly the least unsettling one in many aspects : we see her wander in the Wired for the first time as she investigates about a scientist who exploited kids in order to perform telekinesis at grand scale, to explain how a gigantic version of her came to appear in the city sky. The 5th episode had a lot of hallucinations (?) advocating for posthumanity through a cybernetic existence, but I don't think it accounts as conspiracy theories.
    October 11 03:43 PM
  • Aberf Hey, do you have an allergy to vocaloid? If not check this one out ty
    October 11 01:15 PM
  • Azertherion I would say the second episode was extremely unsettling too, with a glimpse of her "Wired" persona coming back on the surface (even though it's not supposed to exist yet ?). Episode 5 sure was among the most creepy ones, with "Zeus" (maybe the girl who killed herself?) torturing Lain's sister with the prophecy messages.
    October 10 08:06 PM
  • Azertherion The visual representations of how reality distorts itself in her mind are for sure quite well made, in how oppressive they come.
    October 10 03:33 PM
  • Azertherion I just finished the second episode and started the third. Needless to say, it's both captivating and incredibly disturbing. It's hard to tell what are Lain's links to the virtual world so far and how much is it affecting her, but the sure thing is that she struggles with a lot of psychotic symptoms.
    October 10 03:28 PM
  • Azertherion Hey, sorry to disturb but I gotta ask my stupid question : is your profile picture from Serial Experiments Lain ? I've just started watching and it looks oddly similar !
    October 10 12:43 PM
  • Trifolium Yeah exactly. And I'm so into that 90s sound, can't get enough of it. There's just something about those sharp drums and gritty guitars. They have a lot of body I guess, but aren't overblown or oversaturated. Love it.
    October 5 07:30 AM
  • Asdfp277 :0 !!
    October 5 01:49 AM
  • Trifolium Production and guitar/drum sound are totally amazing on that Supercar debut. Love it. Songs are short but sweet. I don't even mind the Japanese, which sometimes puts me off a little because I'm not used to it. And I can already kind of hear why they would remind you of The Gathering. That sounds promising for the next few!
    October 4 10:17 PM
  • Trifolium That said Bu"ck Dich of course, but my phone decided to do some typing all of its own. Grr.
    October 4 05:47 PM
  • Trifolium Nice, I'll add that to my (ever growing) list too. I've heard about that one but their name sounded so Rammstein to me haha, with Bück Such. Oh well. Some great new input, thanks Johnny!
    October 4 05:45 PM
  • Trifolium Yesss. Glad you liked it, I've got no one here to fanboy about them with, nobody knows them! Those tags plus release dates almost make me know that I'm going to love them haha! Does that make sense? Late 90s/early 00s, hmmmm. I might go chronologically even, they look so promising.
    October 4 04:23 PM
  • Trifolium No I've never (consciously) listened to them. Where should I start? Omg that vid is perfect, all that musicality, they're so into the vibe, in concentration mode. Love it.
    October 4 04:15 PM
  • Dewinged Yeah they told me it should come up on bandcamp soon but right now they only had physical copies at their shows. They are just ****ing lazy haha
    October 4 12:37 AM

  • Frippertronics I want to say it's most of it, but it's also out of sequence (December is very early on, July is the penultimate song)
    October 3 10:31 PM

    September 30 12:20 PM
  • Azertherion Eureka's voice makes the dream work for me, wouldn't it be for the few filler tracks here and there I'd easily bumb it higher. It might even be my AOTY honestly, although I have still other stuff to catch up on !
    September 29 08:04 PM
  • Trifolium Johnny have a look at this sexy, sexy vid. They are so in the groove man, whooaaaa
    September 29 01:11 PM
  • Azertherion Thank you for the For Tracy Hyde rec, I've been jamming it for a few days and it rules pretty hard !
    September 27 04:51 PM
  • heyadam omg I went to click on the link and accidentally removed the whole post lol. Can you send it to me again?
    September 24 10:54 PM
  • heyadam Also I was just gonna add MINAKEKKE to the database to but you beat me to that as well hahaha. She has a new ep and the two songs I?ve heard from it are seriously great
    September 24 09:58 PM
  • heyadam Her EP from 2016 ?Sayonara Anaya? is great ? super 90s alt. rock vibes. But yeah man absolutely! J-music is something I stumbled into on my own and have never really talked much about with anyone
    September 24 05:32 PM
  • heyadam Yo! I was expecting to add Ayano Kaneko to the database but saw that you were the only person to have rated/uploaded anything. I?ve been really digging her stuff this past year
    September 24 07:47 AM
  • Trifolium Some vibes were definitely in play here Johnny. Spooky ~~~ I think I'm going to check the others too, this is right up my alley! Great rec, thanks!
    September 19 03:10 PM
  • Trifolium Wow I was just thinking ''this track is greeeaaat'' and yeah, sure enough, track 8! Agreed completely. I could do with some more of that!
    September 19 02:33 PM
  • Trifolium Dude I like that Matryoshka record a lot so far! I'm a huge sucker for jazzy-electronic based music, especially when it's almost trip-hoppy. Plus the slightly sharp edge of the lady's vox totally wins me over, it's almost off-key. Love it if music dares to go so far, the biggest reason I love Portishead as much as I do.
    September 19 01:48 PM
  • Trifolium On it, curious too. That cover is very weird man!
    September 19 01:39 PM
  • Trifolium Yeah, especially the newer ones have many of those chilled out tunes. I recommend you go backwards beginning from their last release. And no I haven't! I'll change that today at work! Any good place to start?
    September 19 06:05 AM
  • Aberf why haven't you listened to Kalafina ;_;
    September 18 12:59 AM
  • Trifolium That's a lovely rating, makes me a happy Indigo Jam Unit fanboy haha! All of their records sound like that, so if you want more there's a whole lot of it. I'd recommend Collectivity and Independent for sure.
    September 17 11:09 AM
  • AnimalsAsSummit just noticed your avatar is angel's egg. love that movie!
    September 17 01:52 AM
  • Trifolium Niiice! Very curious what you think about it. Love that group so much, but it's an acquired taste I guess!
    September 15 09:25 PM
  • Trifolium This question makes me so happpyyyyy!!!!! They are all pretty similar to be honest, but Pirates is probably the best way in. It was my first one too and contains a few classics.
    September 15 09:21 PM

  • Uzumaki Well, technically you?re not wrong; this is her newest album, released in Dec. last year.
    August 11 01:05 PM
  • Uzumaki Jammed ?Kalk Samen...? the other day and I liked it. A little bit of an acquired taste due to the experimental nature, but I liked it all the same.
    August 7 07:30 PM
  • Uzumaki Just a heads up, but you should really check out Daoko?s latest album, ?s***eki Ryokou?; it is incredibly catchy and bubbly pop.

    July 21 11:50 PM
  • Uzumaki Funny thing is, I had just acquired Shiina Ringo?s latest album...
    July 21 11:49 PM
  • Uzumaki TBH I wasn?t expecting the heavy track as well, but then again I?d never heard of Majiko until I listened to Aube, so... I?m glad you dug it! I?ve never heard Seiko Oomori?s material; is she good and to whom would you equate her with?
