New Pixies Songs 'Fake' 2006-06-20 by Stormy Smiley Face | 7 Comments | The Pixies reformed two years ago and in that time have only produced two new songs. One, "Aint That Pretty At All", was for a Warren Zevon tribute album and the other, "Bam Thwok", is a song that is only available through iTunes.
Frontman Frank Blacks says that he wrote several songs for the band about six months ago in order to convince one of the members to make a Pixies record again, but she could not be named (only one female in the band: bassist Kim Deal).
Even though he likes some of the new songs he still admits that they aren't of the high quality that the band used to write.
"I tried to find my Pixies muse and write a so-called Pixies number but they weren't any good. They sounded a little contrived or something. That's the problem with trying to repeat something you did a long time ago; if you go 'Okay, I'm gonna try to recreate something, tap into some mood I used years ago', even if it's the same songwriter, it's kind of fakey."
"What can I say? Sometimes I wish I could just spit out some Pixies-esque songs, but it doesn't really work that way. You write the songs and they come out the way they come out. They might sound like the Pixies, but these days mostly...not."
Pixies are still going on tour however. Here are the dates:
Trencin Pohoda (July 14)
St Polten Nuke (July 15)
Zagreb Salata (July 16)
Toulon Voix de Gaou (July 19)
Lisbon Atlantico (July 20)
Benicassim Festival (July 21)
Carhaix Les Veilles Charrues (July 23)

This is kinda good, I'm worried any new Pixies material will suck. I'd like to catch them on tour again, they're probably the best band I've ever seen.
Aren't you not aloud to post specific tour dates? I might be wrong, but I swear it says that somewhere.
| | | Um, it doesn't say that. I'd be worried if it did and I didn't know since I'm the News Mod. :p
| | | I think it will be very good. Frank Black's solo stuff is good and he is an excellent songwriter. It will all work out. Give it a certain sound, a little twist, and the Pixies are up and running again.
Nice article, btw. This Message Edited On 06.20.06

This is very good news. I hope Frank is just being modest about thatfakey stuff though.
| | | I don't see what's wrong with posting tour dates.
I'm glad Frank is being honest that the new songs aren't very good. I think no album > bad album. I'd hate to see the Pixies become one of those bands that were great in their prime but are still making records that nobody cares about.
| | | i thought they split up again.....
there was a quote from Frank black somewhere saying that he wasn't giving any interviews as he hates been questioned about two dead bands Nirvana and the Pixies. He also said that other band members were not too keen on new material...
If they are still touring cool.. would be great to see them live again.
