Feist wins Shortlist Prize

The winner of the 2008 U.S. Shortlist Prize has been announced, and unsurprisingly, it's Broken Social Scene member Feist. The award honours critically acclaimed albums that are yet to sell more than 500,000 copies on US shores, which means that Feist had yet to sell that many copies despite the ubiquity of iPod anthem "1, 2, 3, 4". Previous winners of the award include Sigur Ros, TV on the Radio, and Damien Rice.

The nominees were as follows -
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
Feist - The Reminder
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
Burial - Untrue
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Justice - Cross
M.I.A. - Kala
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Stars - In Our Bedroom After the War
Working For A Nuclear Free City - Businessmen & Ghosts

No shock win for Burial then, sadly. In an aside, Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol - who was a member of the panel voting for the award - made a statement suggesting that The Reminder was the greatest album ever released by anybody. Seriously.

Good album by a good artist, but not the best album ever. It's too bad Stars' release was lackluster this time. They should have won for like Set Yourself On Fire or something.

Neon Bible is greater.
