Ministry have finally set out to fully bring their early synthpop years into contemporary canon with a new album re-working these previously maligned or forgotten tracks. Titled The Squirrely Years Revisited, the album takes tracks from synthpop debut With Sympathy and EBM sophomore Twitch, as well as standalone tracks from that era including "Every Day Is Halloween" and the first ever Ministry single "I'm Falling". The album is set for release on 28 March via Cleopatra Records.

Track list:
1. Work For Love
2. Here We Go
3. All Day
4. Everyday Is Halloween
5. Revenge
6. I'm Not An Effigy
7. I'm Falling
8. Same Old Madness
9. I'll Do Anything For You
10. Just Like You
11. We Believe
12. Over The Shoulder

Tracks 1, 2, 5, 6 from With Sympathy
Tracks 10, 11, 12 from Twitch
Tracks 3, 4, 7 from standalone singles (All Day (Remix) also appared on Twitch)
Tracks 8, 9 from rarities released in the Trax! Box compilation
Tracks 10-12 are CD exclusives. New music videos are set to be released in the build up to the album's release.

"so useless"

this is probably the one worth-while thing left the band can do.

It's more or less confirmed to be their penultimate release for this current retirement cycle. In 2026 they're gonna release their latest final ever album with Paul Barker back in the band.

This has to be just for money. I know Al hates this album with his entire being. Not sure how I feel about this but Revenge is a banger

"In 2026 they're gonna release their latest final ever album with Paul Barker"

ok I was wrong this was the last worth-while thing they can do. still probably won't be anything special

probably a mix of for the money and I think Al looks at those releases a little differently now. Probably still not his favorite but he doesn't talk like he wants to take a flamethrower to the masters anymore.

Anyone I know personally who likes Ministry for some reason loves With Sympathy, so there's definitely some cult following there

a cult following?? Damn you are harsh. I don't know what changed (other than financial issues) but Al despised that record. That he wants to go out on it is pretty funny but Ministry has sucked for a while now so who cares

Their early stuff is great, but I feel exhausted after listening to just the first album of the Bush trilogy. Also the fact they made a straight-faced environmental song called Just Stop Oil is baffling to me.

as cringe as the Bush Trilogy was, I'm not gonna lie... it kind of fucking ruled. Some bangers on those

I don’t think ‘cult following’ is always negative / derogatory when referring to pop culture

Al made peace with With Sympathy while making Surgical Meth Machine and "I'm Invisible" was the result.

Coincidentally it was around the same time he moved to California and got a medicinal marijuana card. He's always seemed somewhat fond of Every Day is Halloween though as he's reworked that several times, including in 2010.

“ Just because Al is Cuban doesn't mean he's communist ffs”

I had no idea what his nationality was. I based my conclusion on the crazy leftist shit he says. You combine that philosophy with the terrible music and it’s worst case scenario for him

just because Al is a leftist doesn't mean hes a communist lmfao thats like calling all right-leaning people nazi's or smth. Last I checked Al had some pretty basic leftwing ideas but they were pretty agreeable with my personal worldview. No marx or lenin worship to be seen.

you are not informed about the current Al Jorgensen lore it seems. the album redeemed itself in his eyes after seeing another band cover songs from it in a live setting. he saw the genius in that album now. good for him, its one of my favorite ministry albums aswell.

Why do you even open your mouth if you haven’t put any thought into it to what you’re saying? Modern leftism is more government control, social “equity”, censorship, anti-gun, no nation borders, etc. It IS communism under a different name as to confuse people such as yourself that won’t think critically so you’ll fall for it.

you're describing neo-liberalism right now. the leftists i know in the US are definitely not anti gun and have no delusions about the necessity of national borders in our current world.

i like a lot of their modern albums about as much as their 80s output tbh. 00s to today stuff is falsely maligned imo, there are a lot of bops on almost any of their albums (except for beer). the 90s and early 00s is where they peaked though with Filth Pig and Animositisomina.

they never made anything truly incredible after Animositisomina but Rio Grande Blood had some serious rippers at least

Also real libertarianism is basically anarcho-communism if you ask the guy who coined the term.

American libertarians, in keeping with their nature of cultural appropriation, stole the word to make it right wing.

OK time to put my MA in political theory to good use: The Nazis were far right an deliberately used "socialism" in their name to throw people off their extremist ideology.
