Fontaines D.C. Chase Dopamine 2026-08-19 by John Marinakis CONTRIBUTOR | 7 Comments | Fontaines D.C. have announced their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber due October 16 through XL Recordings.
Produced by James Ford, the album follows the band's platinum-certified 2024 release Romance. Its first single, Marianne explores escapism and was partly inspired by the 2024 television adaptation of Ripley. The accompanying video was directed by Dave Meyers.
Dopamine Chamber examines the pursuit of pleasure within an increasingly troubled world, where artificial intelligence, environmental collapse and political violence compete for attention alongside memes and celebrity culture.
Musically, the record pushes Fontaines D.C. toward colder and more synthetic territory through synthesizers, samples and marching rhythms, with several songs reportedly featuring no guitars. Recording took place across London, the English countryside and Palermo, where Grian Chatten recorded his vocals inside a makeshift booth constructed from mattresses and pillows.
Chatten has characterized the album as less hopeful than its predecessor and closer to a warning about humanity's increasingly uneasy relationship with automation and emotional detachment.
