Thoughts? Not too down with this one tbh.
|
| |
it had a chance to do something more but instead it just repeated itself after the first minute, pretty disappointing
|
| |
yeah it's just flat and doesn't build into anything. I'm getting the impression that Damon was far too excited with most of these songs and didn't give them any time to develop. The only ones so far that sound anywhere near to completely realised are Andromeda and Hallelujah Money
|
| |
Yeah this doesn't really go anywhere.
|
| |
Enjoyed this more than that awful auto tune track.
|
| |
Yep the biggest disappointed from this all singles. I don't know now how this album will be at the end.
|
| |
Man, I'm just not feeling any of the new tracks. :/
|
| |
Sad!
|
| |
Probably my 2nd least fav, better than We Got The Power imo
|
| |
Dis song sucks
|
| |
Album is shaping up to be "vocalist (feat. Damon Albarn)".
|
| |
The new stuff is pretty garbage so far.
|
| |
What if... scenario: Gorillaz were never that great to begin with
Leave a like on this post if you agree!

Nah, Demon Days was amazing. I haven't really liked any of these new songs, though.
|
| |
The thing with Gorillaz is that they've always been hit and miss. I am liking this track though.
Btw today they released a Bonobo remix of their Andromeda track. The remix is better than the original imo.
|
| |
Album is shaping up to be "vocalist (feat. Damon Albarn)".
honestly that wouldn't be a bad thing if Damon had any fucking energy in his vocals. The only one he does have energy on is We Got the Power and there you can't fucking hear him cause Jenny and Noel are mixed so loud
|
| |
Andromeda and this are the only two tracks so far from this that I've been able to enjoy.
Album's probably gonna be a hard 2, or a soft 2.5
|
| |
I actually like this one a lot, probably the most of the six(?) songs that have been released already. Pusha T is great and it feels like Gorillaz just making a solid Gorillaz track.
|
| |
so far this albums seems like a big dissapointment
|
| |
Pusha T is the only redeeming part of this track. Honestly this track just made me wanna listen to Darkest Before Dawn. All hail King Push.
|
| |
Man wtf happened to them? Plastic beach was so good
|
| |
thanks obama

Possibly one of, if not THEE greatest single of the year thus far. - Geoff Tate.
|
| |
It's pretty great, the faux surface noise and Damon verse were kinda unnecessary tho
|
| |
I think this is one of the better singles to drop so far! Why all the hate? It has a very similar atmosphere to Demon Days.
|
| |
Album is shaping up to be "vocalist (feat. Damon Albarn)".
Agreed. Plastic Beach had the same issue. I wish he went back to less collaborations and more "solo" tracks.
|
| |
Gorillaz are most famous for their collaborations though. If people just want to hear Damon without any guests, they should check out "Everyday Robots"
|
| |
this record has very little of the fun quirkiness that plastic beach had and even less of the confident restraint of the s/t and demon days
|
| |
toad i hope u end up fucking with the album when its released in full. its turning out to be a pretty great album thus far for me
|
| |
"Album is shaping up to be "vocalist (feat. Damon Albarn)"
so, it's shaping up to be a Gorillaz album, then?
|
| |
^^^
Damon has never been the spotlight of the album and when there's a guest on a track he's always outperformed, and that's ok
|
| |
gorillaz has never seemed that much of a damon solo project for me
dan the automator had a huge footprint on the debut and danger mouse on demon days
@dream i hope so too. that being said i remember loving the plastic beach singles a lot more than these - stylo, jellyfish, melancholy, rhinestone - really dope tracks
|
| |
'so, it's shaping up to be a Gorillaz album, then?'
'Damon has never been the spotlight of the album and when there's a guest on a track he's always outperformed, and that's ok'
My problem with this has nothing to do with the fact that Damon isn't a prominent vocalist or whatever, its the fact that this straight up (from what we've heard) does not sound like a Gorillaz record. It literally sounds like hip hop songs featuring Damon Albarn as a vocalist. The Gorillaz albums are WAY MORE than just a vessel to feature vocalists, even if they utilize a lot of guest vocalists.
|
| |
Definitely. Right now this work seems a bit without an anchor.
|
| |
Plastic Beach fits that description for the most part Vax. If you didn't fuck with that, I guess you won't fuck with this either.
For the singles on this record thus far... My ranking, counting Hallelujah Money, goes;
1. HM
2. Ascension
3. Saturnz Barz
4. Andromeda
5. Let Me Out
6. We Got The Power
If WGTP had stronger production and longer verses, it could've been much more stronger.
|
| |
Plastic Beach is tied with Demon Days for my favorite album from Gorillaz. It was a lot more feature heavy, but it had a really noticeable and distinct style, atmosphere, and concept that screamed "Gorillaz". It sounded like a cartoon in music form and thats also why Demon Days stands out as a great album. It's also why I think their s/t kinda falters when stacked up against their other work because its also missing that kind of cartoony music aesthetic (but its still solid on its own merits).
But Humanz, for as much as I like all the singles, has nothing really noticeable or distinct to make it sound like its another Demon Days or Plastic Beach type album. It sounds like something a person who didnt actually understand what Gorillaz was would describe them as.
|
| |
We Got the Power is awful and I hate it even more than I know it's the song with Noel Gallagher. as if you don't do a whole fucking song with Noel after all this time instead of burying him in the mix on a shitty motivational song
|
| |
Huh
I like their self titled the best easily bc it doesn't have nearly as much of the cartoon feel and is much more just a really subdued yet experimental rock/hip-hop/electronic record
The cartoon feels like way less of a gimmick and much more of a boost to the musical aesthetic there for me
Also I just love automators production
|
| |
Noel was the dude who said that Gorillaz was for 12 year olds and shit, so shoving him too low in the mix to be noticeable is a pretty good way to get back at him.
|
| |
@Toad, my biggest problem with s/t isnt exactly the lack of a cartoony aesthetic, I just think a lot of it is kinda weakly done in general. There's a reason why people only seem to talk about Clint Eastwood and 19-2000, because they're just better written songs than something like Latin Simone or Double Bass.
|
| |
yeah except the beef was on both sides and by collaborating they're obviously tryina bury the beef
also Double Bass rules tf
|
| |
idk i fuck with all gorillaz albums but
1. PB
2. Demon Days
3. Self Titled
|
| |
Yeah double bass is great
Also the opening three tracks are amazing as are gravity, slow country and rock the house imo, I just dig that golden zone of understated yet groovy as hell with hooks nestled nicely in the writing
|
| |
i like it.
|
| |
i really liked andromeda and saturnz barz, this is alright, not keen on the other released tracks
never been much of a gorillaz fan in the past but i'd be willing to give this record a try
|
| |
one of my favorite gorillaz songs is slow country, amazing song
|
| |
one of my favorite gorillaz songs is slow country, amazing song
|
| |
Don't know what you guys have been on, every song released so far has been life changing. all i've been jamming the last few days tbh.
|
| |
"life changing"
|
| |
feeling the other 5, not this one much at all.
|
| |
"one of my favorite gorillaz songs is slow country, amazing song"
Hell yeah, that song rules hard. Might actually be my all-time favorite Gorillaz tune tbh.
|
| |
I'm digging this one actually, though I agree it kind of wastes it's potential and peters off after the first minute or two, but the opening with Pusha T is pretty damn good.
|
| |
yeah i do quite like the conversational tone between Pusha T and Mavis Staples on this but it still feels crazy underdeveloped
|
| |
goddamn the production on this is painfully weak
|
| |
"every song released so far has been life changing.'
nateman everything you say is so absurdly preposterous its amazing dont ever change
|
| |
Damon did his part of the production on his iPad
|
| |
lol
|
| |
looking forward to hearing the whole thing
