|
| |

They needed something like this after Hubardo. Love it.
|
| |
swee
|
| |
jesus...... second time listening. this is absolutely incredible
|
| |
aw yeaaa. gonna pop a listen.
|
| |
i wanted to like hubardo soo bad....gotta see if I like this.
|
| |
In Kayo Dot fashion, it's stylistically completely different.
|
| |
Only Toby could pull off the vocals on "Spirit Photography" and make me smile instead of scoff. Hurrah, Praise the Sun!
|
| |
HOLY SHIT DAMN YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
|
| |
"In Kayo Dot fashion, it's stylistically completely different."
exactly, just the reason I'm giving this a listen.
|
| |
This is WAY better than I thought it was going to be.
|
| |
Last year's album ruled hard, Choirs of the Eye ruled hard and this rules soooo fucking harddd ohhh yeaaaah
|
| |
Holy fuck, boys.
|
| |
Splash.
|
| |
really enjoying this. its new and different but its also just enjoyable music.
|
| |
really enjoying this. its new and different but its also just enjoyable music.
|
| |
I defintely hear that Blade Runner "retro-future noir" vibe, especially in the last track
|
| |
yee its blade runnery as all hell. pretty monumental mysterious/ emotional vibe goin on
|
| |
best band
|
| |
could never get into Kayo Dot despite going through a Choirs of the Eye phase like three years ago... will this change my perspective at all?
|
| |
It should, or something's wrong...
|
| |
this is depeche mode-y in parts
awesome as usual
|
| |
Don't get this band at all, shit annoys the hell out of me.
|
| |
looking at your favourite artists list thats not too surprising
|
| |
Keep coming back to em waiting for something to click. No dice.
|
| |
i can safely say that these guys will probably never do anything that will cater to your tastes, save yourself annoyance :]
|
| |
I don't understand how you can not enjoy this band if you give them the time they deserve. Obviously it takes dedication to the music, it won't just be instantly gratifying, but after listening and dissecting, each album becomes a unique classic in it's own right.
|
| |
i can completely understand how you could not enjoy this band
|
| |
LordePots has the right idea lol. I just hate missing out. There have been a handful of times where I've ventured far outside my tastes and really given time to a band/album and it turned out great.
|
| |
I could see their first couple albums being a lot easier to digest but their material from Blue Lambency onward is stuff that to me, seems like you'll either love it or hate it. You need to tune into it on an emotional level to really appreciate it, but if that happens for you, you'll never turn back. However if it doesn't, their music will forever be this odd little niche that intrigues you as much as it repels you.
|
| |
Your last sentence is creepily accurate.
|
| |
anyone hear some smiths in this?
|
| |
Yeah, that was a damn good summary sentence for the band. I personally love Blue Lambency Downward
(got a sexy maroon vinyl) and I find it bizarre that it has an overall low approval among all
review websites, because if you listen to it multiple times you find that it's just as clever and
witty as any of their records, if not more-so, it's just less accessible. : /
|
| |
@portal, i had that feel with them until Blue Lambency Downward really connected me to the event of my uncles funeral, as of then I've been in love with everything they do
But before that I struggled to appreciate even said album at all and kept coming back to it out of intrigue and leaving it 10 minutes later wondering why the fuck I tried again at all
Then there is Coyote which seems to be the pinnacle of their ability to polarize...
I love that album more than life but I realize I never would have grown so fond of it if it weren't for the experience with BLD that brought me to understand the mental and emotional space that I need to be in to have a good listening experience with most of KD's stuff.
Which is probably why I rarely ever listen to them regardless of how much I love them :p
|
| |
also every time they release a new album it is one of my most anticipated of the year yet I put it off for months after it comes out just because I know I have to be in a very precise mood to get the most of it
|
| |
i wonder how many people actually know what io is
|
| |
it is one of jupiters moon
jupie is mah rulin' planet gotsta know
|
| |
Potsy have you jammed yet?
|
| |
nope not yet, see above
not gonna jam till im in the right mood
|
| |
Interesting change of pace. Toby Driver is a fascinating musician.
|
| |
"I could see their first couple albums being a lot easier to digest but their material from Blue Lambency onward is stuff that to me, seems like you'll either love it or hate it."
dowsing anemone is a probably their least accessible one tbh
|
| |
This will probably rule hard, Library Subterranean was a great track.
|
| |
this rules hard yeah. the whole second half is just hnnnnng
|
| |
Gotta love Toby, constantly trying to reinvent himself with every record.
|
| |
agreed, gotta appreciate that. it has led up to some experiments with mixed results but when he nails it he is able to produce something otherworldly
|
| |
dowsing anemone is a probably their least accessible one tbh
well i mean if by most you mean second least then yeah probably for sure
|
| |
"Trying to reinvent himself" sorta implies that he's attempting to be wacky and different every time for the sake of it"
I don't think it implies that at all...
|
| |
Why would I say "Gotta love Toby" then go on to suggest his work is being wacky for the sake of being wacky? Quite the contradiction.
|
| |
Fair enough.
|
| |
Will check later.
|
| |
So... which bandwagon and these trendies hopping onto this time?
|
| |
Needs a dl link.
|
| |
i only ever really liked choirs of the eye by them, but this i am digging hard
"However if it doesn't, their music will forever be this odd little niche that intrigues you as much as it repels you."
this is hubardo to me. i just cant get into that chit
|
| |
offramp cycle is absolutely mesmerizing my godddddd
|
| |
Here we go...big hype
|
| |
Oh wow...this is weird. I kinda get the appeal, but so far it's probably my second least fave Kayo; the 80s vibes are too strong for me
|
| |
Hold that thought - The Assassination of Adam is awesome. Anticipating the whole thing growing massively.
|
| |
coffins on WAYOH!
fucking choice!
what a dog!
*airhorn*
all day i'm rolling around town like, "blood - on my hands - and the thiiing in the back seat... that used to be human!"
ppl be like o_O
and i'm all, "it seeps thru - the plastic shrouuddd - as i push it... faster further - i push the needle - i push the
needle!!!!"
hooray!
"So... which bandwagon and these trendies hopping onto this time?" < - this is an ironic joke right?
mwahaha yes
|
| |
this is really good
|
| |
choirs of the eye is their only good album to me. but it is a complete masterpiece. looking forward to this.
|
| |
first track is wonderful. great start.
|
| |
God damn this is so good. The only gripe I have is that I feel like they missed an opportunity for some awesome harsh vocal placement on The Assassination of Adam, and even that's just a personal opinion.
|
| |
Fuckin double comment fuck my ass but yeah this album is good
|
| |
The main problem I have with this now is that everything I like about it is done better by the first half of Symmetrical Arizona, but I can't wait to listen again and see where it takes me
|
| |
bits of this sound like type o negative especially the ending of the first song. loving this.
|
| |
checking this out right now.
|
| |
aoty bitches
|
| |
My mother frequently calls me to tell me about her new Fields of the Nephilim and Clan of Xymox LPs.
shut the fuck up
|
| |
Just had sex to my first listen of the extended jazzy section in Spirit Photography; sets such a nice mood. Never really taken the time to listen this band but I love all the stylistic variations in the album, and the atmosphere is great.
|
| |
sex with ur hand yeah
|
| |
