New Steven Wilson Album

2012-07-19 by Flyboy | 70 Comments
Straight from Steven Wilson's Facebook, he has released a rather lengthy update in regards to his future music endeavors.

Quote:
Hi folks - an update of sorts.... The writing for the next SW album is almost finished, and this time I've written it all for my live band to play, mostly pretty long pieces (including the piece we previewed on the recent tour "Luminol"). We will start recording in LA in September with Alan Parsons overseeing things. Alan, as I'm sure many of you know, was the engineer on Dark Side of the Moon, one of the best sounding records ever. The new album should be out in early 2013, and conceptually and visually we are planning to take things to the next level with the packaging and live show too. Lasse is also going to be there to film so we plan to bring you some in the studio footage on the official SW YouTube channel. Just a reminder that at the moment you can watch a preview from the forthcoming SW band live DVD/Blu-ray "Get All You Deserve" on the channel, follow the link below....
The link to check out the aforementioned live DVD/Blu-Ray preview can be viewed below. The song is a live performance of Harmony Korine, from his first solo album, Insurgentes. It was filmed during his 2012 Grace for Drowning tour, in Mexico City.

i'd rather porcupine tree news. i haven't been able to get into any of his solo stuff. gonna give grace for drowning a spin later on though. since everyone jerks off to it. give it another go.

I heard Luminol live - it was actually really good. The entire concert was phenomenal. I don't mind how prolific he is as long as he continues to put out this quality.

Luminol was pretty damn good, and the live show was the best I've ever seen. No doubt his 3rd solo will slay. I hope he gets gavin again though, Minneman and France are good, but no one does it like gavin.

won't argue with this. i mean, Insurgentes and Grace are better than everything PT has released from In Absentia onwards, at the very least.

Yeah it doesn't bother me at all that a new Porcupine Tree album is nowhere in sight, as long as his solo material keeps kicking ass. I've heard the new song, so not even the PT fanboy in me is upset.

In June 2012, Wilson re-emphasized his continued focus on his solo career, with his answer to the question "...is (there) a danger that Porcupine Tree might fall by the wayside?" being "The honest answer is I don’t know. The solo career for me now is probably the most important. I think about it more than anything else, I’m more focused on it than anything else, I enjoy it more than anything else..."[57] While he still said that he still "want(s) to get Porcupine Tree back together at some point", he conceded that he isn't sure what direction he wants to take the band, only that he's tired of metal music."[58]

i'm okay with this.

no, Akerfeldt has been influenced by Wilson since before Still Life. Heritage was indeed a wrong turn, but not Wilson's fault by any means.

No, he doesn't. And putting albums out like Korpiklaani doesn't help it.

I usually hate that phrase but Wilson really does need to 'get a life'.

Steve-o Wilson doesn't need a life. you all need lives. releasing lots of albums must be therapeutic for him or a way to express himself. And it's gonna be interesting, experimental music so why can't he do what he wants? why don't you all go listen to Attack Attack or something haha

Yeah tbh I enjoyed Porcupine Tree most before they signed to Lava Records. "The Sky Moves Sideways" is a great album, everyone seems to forget they even did anything before God damn In Absentia though.

That's because Buckethead isn't getting worse.

Buckethead, has been releasing mindless jibber-jabber since the conception of his solo career. Granted most of his work is 50/50.

Heritage was all Akerfeldt.

I was talking about Storm Corrosion. I obviously know he played a huge part influencing Opeth in the direction they've gone with their past 5 albums but look at where that all went. He influenced them to go straight prog (I bet Akerfeldt was working on material for Storm Corrosion during the Heritage sections).

Grace for Drowning, Heritage, and astorm Corrosion were all written, recorded, and mixed during the same time, hence why they're considered the Odd album triology. SC was released n a different time because they both thought they could support SC together after supporting their other stuff.
