This is a terrible list, with a few exceptions.
|
| |
agreed, who the fuck comes up with these lists that i just cant take seriously
|
| |
good list
|
| |
i dnt even know where to begin with who was left off, the fact tht skrillex made that list and guys like john frusciante, eddie van halen, AND JIMMY PAGE didnt tells me all i need to know... jonny greenwood, the edge, tony iommi, and a couple more are exeptions
|
| |
and jimi hendrix wow, what a joke
|
| |
list kicks ass
|
| |
oops, i dint read ''albeit alternative perspective''. still...skrillex. wtf man
|
| |
oh dear
|
| |
clicks on best 100 guitarist list
sees skrillex
|
| |
doesn't surprise me
|
| |
welcome to the future
|
| |
rofl what the fuck JMJ doesn't play guitar and he's ranked 10?
|
| |
really hit and miss but i appreciate the effort to look away from generic choices. i mean not too many mainstream publications are going to put fred frith, sonny sharrock, glenn branca, james blood ulmer, and DEREK BAILEY (who should be on all of these fucking lists). focusing on their aesthetics and opening up new paths in guitar playing is great, because too many lists are just lazy, clapton/page/hammet/van halen worship. that being said, the edge doesnt deserve to be on any best of list.
|
| |
oh and keiji haino also. now they just need to put masayuki takayanagi in these things.
|
| |
that being said, the edge doesnt deserve to be on any best of list.
this so hard
the edge has never been anything more than competent imo
|
| |
some good some bad some terrible
|
| |
this list is so random
|
| |
I'm all for alternative best-of lists, but....lol at some of these choices.
It seems like they just compiled 100 people and ranked them randomly.
|
| |
fucking awful list
|
| |
Most of the bands listed are actually awesome but the guitarists are far from recognisable.
|
| |
Bitch post about Skrillex. Fucking really. Hipsters.
|
| |
least kevin shields got some recognition
|
| |
"Look, as far as we know, our asymmetrically coiffed party pal has never held a guitar in his life. But no contemporary musician has a more primal understanding of adrenaline-pumping, pulse-raising, chest-caving bulldozer riffs than dubstep mosh ambassador Skrillex. Somewhere between the unfiltered piston-pumps of nu-metal and the twinkling emocore melodies that weaned him is a gaping sarlacc of yawping melodies and buzzsaw edges. The bass drop to "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" might just be this generation's "Smoke on the Water" - look no further than the obscene number of "Skrillex guitar cover" videos on YouTube! "
FUUUUUCCCCKKKK
|
| |
just skimmed through it and the inclusion of guys like curt kirkwood, rowland s howard, duane denison, glenn branca and keiji haino already makes it better than the usual shitty guitarist lists
|
| |
No Frusciante, Hendrix, or Gilmour, with Cobain in the #4 slot.
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
|
| |
Top 4 Best Drummers of All Time
#4 Joseph Stalin
#3 Steve Jobs
#2 Neil Peart
#1 Deadmau3
|
| |
Kurt Cobain at number 4...
...
...
...
FALCON...
...
PUNCH!!!!!
|
| |
D. Boon was an amazing guitarist.
|
| |
So apparently manipulating the sounds rather than playing the actual instrument makes you good at that instrument. I'M GONNA GET GOOD AT THE ORCHESTRA.
|
| |
No Spawn of Possesion???? no Gorod??? no Anata??? no fucking BTBAM??? Protest the Hero???? BENEATH THE MASSACRE????
bullshit list
|
| |
yea shit list
|
| |
Corgan, Reid, Schuldiner, Dimebag, Thayil, Greenwood, D.Boon, Iommi, Hazel, J.Mascis, Ranaldo & Moore FTW!
The rest I don't know or couldn't give two shits about. This list is missing Lifeson though, NO guitar list in my humble opinion can exist without him.
|
| |
List was pretty good after fucking Skrillex @ 100 which I'd imagine was done solely to drum up page views via a faux-controversy.
Instead of Skrillex @ 100 they should have put a guy like Kenny Vaughan who's awesome but doesn't get much attention 'cuz he's primarily known as a Nashville session musician.

|
| |
Skrillex
what
|
| |
Read the Skrillex part, stopped reading the list, I've already wasted enough time
|
| |
why the fuck is Kurt Cobain on this list
|
| |
Probably the most lolworthy guitarist list I have ever seen.
|
| |
"Read the Skrillex part, stopped reading the list, I've already wasted enough time"
This. The explanation for him is so fucking dumb I can't believe anyone can actually believe that
he doesn't play guitar but his music is heavy thus he must be a great guitarist... makes no sense
|
| |
Because people love Nirvana for their complex lead guitar parts right
|
| |
picking skrillex was fairly base level tongue in cheek humour that's still going over your heads
|
| |
"So apparently manipulating the sounds rather than playing the actual instrument makes you good at that instrument. I'M GONNA GET GOOD AT THE ORCHESTRA."
Well Id rather listen to a guitarist sounding different than just do the same old junk we've heard a thousand times. Even if they can shred if it just sounds like everybody else its not that exciting to me. Experiment a little bit. Make your own style that people will recognize right away. Its what made somebody like Tom Morello pretty cool to listen to when he came out. Even The Edge who people are knocking here had his own thing going. Hes more interesting in my eyes than just another generic hard rock player, even if the hard rock guy can solo better or whatever.
|
| |
Spins greatest guitarists ever includes people who don't even play guitar. Lmao I love it.
|
| |
List is definitely gutsy
|
| |
haha what
|
| |
The funny thing is that if a list was actually accurate (in terms of measuring different aspects of playing) people would glance at it and never say anything about it.
Lists like this get people talking, and by putting Skrillex at #100, the article gets 100x more views than it initially would.
|
| |
SKRILLEX?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
| |
this dude on my facebook was getting intensely butthurt about skrillex's inclusion on this list, talking about how he is the downfall of music, nobody respects music as art, etc.
and i'm just shaking my head because all he listens to is shit like born of osiris and for the fallen dreams.
|
| |
it was cool to see marissa paternoster on here.
|
| |
picking skrillex was fairly base level tongue in cheek humour that's still going over your heads
|
| |
So Jam Master Jay is the 10th greatest guitarist of all time but Hendrix doesn't make the top 100? These lists are always stupid, but this one takes the cake.
|
| |
Uhh I wouldn't leave it up to SPIN to provide any level tongue-in-cheek material
|
| |
Read their last issue, pretty sure they're not tongue in cheek-ing anything. I think they just have confused general douchebaggery for being 'ironic'.
|
| |
Meatspin.com had a much better list
|
| |
Terrible list is terrible. Read #100 and #1: didn't feel that reading the rest was necessary
|
| |
Digging: Shinedown - Amaryllis
|
| |
lol
also, username: Muse1748
|
| |
Tosin Abosi? Didn't look at the list, is he on it? That's a problem if not.
|
| |
Damn, harsh crowd today. Who knew liking Shinedown and Muse was worthy of ridicule. Noted, guess I'll have to change that
immediately.
|
| |
this is uhhh no
|
| |
"Dubstep impresario Skrillex has been ranked at #100, with SPIN itself admitting no knowledge of whether the producer, 24, has actually ever played guitar before."
And the list becomes null already.
|
| |
The people ahead of Stone Gossard, lol.
And Cobain, mega LLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.
|
| |
the entire list should just be mudvayne and la dispute. agreed.
|
| |
Oh, poor fatty making jokes again.
|
| |
Hey man, what's the best (non greatest hits) album you've heard?
|
| |
This list is a joke, right?
|
| |

Mom said turn it down, but I took the grounding instead.
|
| |
answer the question
|
| |
Turn it down, mom's orders.
|
| |
I was going to read this, until Skrillex showed up.
|
| |
why they refer to him as "skrillex" instead of "sonny moore" on a top guitarists list is beyond me. regardless, i don't think he should be in the top 100 at all.
|
| |
Kurt Cobain is the 4th best guitarist of all time? huh
doesn't surprise me. somehow I got a subscription to Spin out of nowhere. 99% of what I read makes me laugh. it's usually not supposed to be funny though.
|
| |
This is such a pretentious list
|
| |
Look, as far as we know, our asymmetrically coiffed party pal has never held a guitar in his life. But no contemporary musician has a more primal understanding of adrenaline-pumping, pulse-raising, chest-caving bulldozer riffs than dubstep mosh ambassador Skrillex. Somewhere between the unfiltered piston-pumps of nü-metal and the twinkling emocore melodies that weaned him is a gaping sarlacc of yawping melodies and buzzsaw edges. The bass drop to "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" might just be this generation's "Smoke on the Water" — look no further than the obscene number of "Skrillex guitar cover" videos on YouTube!
this is the worst paragraph I have ever read
|
| |
Agreed hard
This list is still funny
|
| |
I am surprised Larry LaLonde is not on there. Very inventive guitarist.
|
| |
the fact he's only at #100 proves they were just looking for an excuse to squeeze this guy into the list to get attention
|
| |
cool list but where's skrillex
|
| |
shit just realized this is that articl
|
| |
what
|
| |
Awful job Spin, except for obvious exceptions, surprised they had Ben Weinman.
But seriously, what the FUCK is Dave Navarro doing on this list? Kurt Cobain, number 4? What? Oh and
how edgy to put Skrillex on there.
|
| |
Agreed on Ler LaLonde. Awesome and versatile guitarist.
|
| |
