New Damien Jurado Album

2012-02-13 by americanohno | 4 Comments
Longtime indie-folk guy Damien Jurado is out with a new album titled Maraqopa. It's to be released on the 21st of February via Secretly Canadian.

Maraqopa is Jurado's 10th studio album, and second to be produced by Richard Swift who also produced 2010's Saint Bartlett.

The A.V. Club describe the album as a "swirling, sinister, psych-tinged tapestry," so, yeah sounds like the depressing folk-ish thing you should be listening to in February you loveless perverts.

You can stream the album now from the aforementioned Web site.

my first ever article.................

anyways my thoughts from the first listen thru "Maraqopa":

'Tis good. Sounds a lot like Saint Bartlett, Mr. Swift has a real distinct production style that strangely sounds like something every other indie-folkster's doin' right now.

The first song is a solid ass-kicker, it devolves into competing guitar solos halfway thru. The other songs sort of blend together, although there are a few stand outs. I'd give the album a 4 outta 5, even tho right now it's a 3.5 outta 5 but I'm certain it'll grow on me a lil'

Takeaway: Listen to the first track if you've never heard o' this guy or his previous stuff hasn't moved you. If ya like it go ahead an listen to the whole album if ya don't well I'm guessin' ya can go ahead an take a pass on this one.

Very good album. I don't think it's that depressing though, it's more optimistic and sunny. Also, I think it's more textured than Saint Bartlett.
