Powderfinger To Break Up

2010-04-09 by qwe3 | 23 Comments
After 21 years as one of Australia's biggest acts, Powderfinger's career is finally coming to an end, finishing with a farewell Australian tour later this year.

"With the completion of our last album, 'Golden Rule,' we feel that we have said all that we want to say as a musical group," the band said in a statement on their website.

Yeah, gotta agree with this

Funny how on the same day Godspeed You! Black Emperor reforms and Powderfinger break up.

dougie's news post hasn't been approved for some reason

anyways

their best was behind them, but their contribution to aus rock is undeniable. at least a bernard fanning solo album is more or less confirmed, and cogsy can probably concentrate more on his underwear modeling.

find it strange that they consider golden rule their most complete and satisfying album. nah.

my thoughts

Kind of sucks, legendary band, but at least they went out on a solid album.

Meh. Gonna get a lot of hate for this but these guys were so boring live the two times I saw them.

no hate at all. i've seen them four times and haven't found them particularly amazing either time.

they're not a good live band, at least not in big venues.

I understand that they are radio friendly rock and have some very good songs but I don't get why everyone fellates over them to such an extent.
Sadly this only upsets me because it probably means Fanning will release more snooze worthy tripe.

they've just been a very consistent band in terms of output and are great songwriters. that's why i like them at least.

even the stuff before they hit it big is seriously good, too.

because they've been pumping out consistently great, varying and interesting radio rock for ages (excluding dream days of course)

Yep they are somewhat consistent, however they have a formula which they have stuck with for 20 years which I find far from interesting.

Anyone who hasn't heard Powderfinger & wants to get a feel, I'd recommend their 'Best Of' packacge titled 'Fingerprints'.

That's some old Powderfinger, Bernard wasn't even on the guitar at that stage. But it's amazing though.
Tis a shame they are breaking up, the deathcore scene doesn't need another detriment what with Depised Icon breaking up too.
