Animal Collective Confirm EP

2009-10-10 by Kiran EMERITUS | 32 Comments
An Amazon page for a new Animal Collective record entitled Fall Be Kind sparked up rumours recently about the possibility of another release before the year was out, following up their hugely successful and critically acclaimed 8th LP, Merriweather Post Pavillion. Band member Dave Portner/Avey Tare confirmed the release of the new EP in an interview with Pitchfork.

Fall Be Kind will be a 28 minute, five song EP, consisting of two songs recorded during the Merriweather sessions and three being live experiments that the band has decided to put to the studio. It's set to be released December 8th via Domino records.

the Water Curses EP was kind of whatever save for the title track, but for some reason I have much more faith in this. What Would I Want Sky is so awesome. They played it live when I saw them but I had no idea what it was at the time.

yeah, i'm not sure if it's just the momentum coming off merriweather but i'm confident this will be a very solid EP.

what would i want sky ruled live, probs one of their best tracks. but the version of bleed ive heard is insanely boring. not sure it'll be an extra bundle of catchiness after MPP.

the term "live experiments" doesn't do much for my confidents about this.

that was just for a lack of better phrasing tbh, they're just songs the band has enjoyed playing live for a long time and has decided to finally release

"Pitchfork: Is there any reason for you to put out the dark record now, other than the seasonal change?

DP: Maybe. I don't know. I just think there's songs of ours that are like that. We write about whatever we encounter, whatever seems to be a big thing. In the past two years, there have definitely been some darker topics worth writing about, and I think they all fit together on this. I wouldn't necessarily say that "Graze" or "What Would I Want? Sky", the first two jams, are topically particularly that dark. We even wondered if all these songs feel like a bunch of leftover songs, but I think they definitely do fit together in a sweet way. I guess because I associate fall with Halloween, which is my favorite holiday. It just has that feeling, too. I really like autumn; I don't necessarily feel like it's a dark season or anything. The transitional seasons are usually my favorite.

Pitchfork: So it's not that you guys are in a dark place or anything?

DP: No, no. There are just dark moments. You can't hide them. So we just put it out there. "

exactly how i feel about autumn

Deacon did a remix/jam with a phoenix song- love like a sunset under the title of animal collective just a few weeks ago.

I think he still collaborates with the band but I doubt he's going to have much to do with this album. Maybe he'll tour with them again though.

the last i heard of deacon was that interview where he said he was tired of touring and all that and just wanted to settle down for a while

I have been confused about deacon's status with AC, is he just taking time off or what?

He's still pretty much in the band. After they tour Australia, they will most likely start working on a new batch of songs with
Deaks. He also has remixed a couple of bands (Ratatat, Phoenix) and those remixes have been released as Animal Collective
remixes.
