Final Johnny Cash Song

2006-06-21 by Stormy Smiley Face | 19 Comments
The day after his wife, June Cash, passed away Johnny Cash called producer Rick Rubin telling him to give him something to do every day from now on, or else he would die. Rubin told Rolling Stone that Cash truly believed music was the only thing he had to live for.

Despite the fact that Johnny was both blind and wheelchair-bound he managed to write and record thirty new songs. One of which, "Like the 309", will appear on his post-humous collection entitled, "American V: A Hundred Highways". It will be released on July 3.

I wasn't aware that he was blind.

Awesome news, though.

Reading his wikipedia bio I'm pretty sure he was not blind.

You can't exactly take Wikipedia all too seriously, as anyone can edit it.

It's possible he could be blind and write thirty songs after playing for as long as he did. NME (where I got this) said he was both blind and in a wheelchair.

The guy was old and I believe at that point he had some health problems. I would not be surprised if he was blind at this point in his life.

I've never heard of him going blind, but even if he did I'm sure he could still write and record music. I'm not sure, but I think Beethoven wrote music after he went deaf. That shit would be f-ing hard.

He had diabetes, and he didn't treat it, which caused him to go blind. (Maybe not completely blind, but probably legally blind).

Like the 309 sounds pretty damn good considering its his last song and he was in a bad condition in those last couple of months of his life.

Johnny was awesome, his music was amazing, his music will always be listened to.
