As the year winds down, Iron & Wine is putting the bus in the garage for the season and shifting gears for more activities around the house. To kick things off, the archives were scoured and an amazing collection of alternate takes of songs from The Shepherd's Dog was discovered. We're excited to offer these eight songs to you, for free. Please click below for your download. Keep an eye on this site for continued activity in the coming months. Thanks for the support.

Quick note to you guys, I don't know if you know but this is the greatest live musician I have ever seen. I have seen quite a few artists live from lots of different genres and I will always say that seeing Iron And Wine play The Trapeze Swinger with his sister live was the greatest moment of my life. Every music lover should experience this.

The free Sarah Fimm was a treat, but free Iron and Wine is an all out feast!

I saw him live a few months back and he didn't play The Trapeze Swinger. Disappointing.

I have a friend who is a big fan. I'm can't get into him much, but Passing Afternoon is super amazing.

For anyone who hasn't downloaded this, it's great. It's pretty much stripped down versions of the songs with only guitar and his voice. The Devil Never Sleeps sounds completely different without the piano, yet it's just as good.

I agree on the live comment. On disc I'm not a huge fan of his (I always found his music slightly boring) but I saw him live and it blew me away
