Led Zeppelin flies again

2008-09-26 by StrizzMatik | 29 Comments
According to musicweek.com:

After much deliberation Robert Plant has reportedly signed up to a reunion tour with Led Zeppelin, this despite the fact that the band has rehearsing with new singers in a west London rehearsal space for the past few weeks with the expectation that Plant would decline the opportunity to hit the road with the group.

Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham had planned for the worst, rehearsing with an unknown (although apparently well known) singer for an upcoming tour, even trying out new material, while giving Plant first option to join them on the road. Now, it seems Plant has taken up the call to arms at the last hour and will reportedly complete the line-up.

According to reports the tour will take place next summer. It follows the huge success if their one off reunion show at London’s O2 Arena in December last year.

well this is welcome news and i don't even particularly like them. for myself

but they were surprisingly good last year at the one off gig. Jimmy was great. and that surprised me and i think many. he has been "off" for so many years. i heard him with the Black Crowes (and b4) and he just seemed to had lost it somehow?

but he got it back. thats cool. i used to be a bigger fan but never thought Jimmy was particularly special live. studio guy. good live, but not great. last year i heard something different. lot's of passion going around

and whats up with Plant? why wouldn't he tour? i guess i could see why he might have to think about it, though. i guess he has. good thing because Zep without him and John Bonham? sry but that ain't Zep. all due respect to Jason

Trust me, Jason Bonham stepping in for his dad is a good thing. Dude is a monster on the drums and he clearly owned the performance on 12/10/07. There's a killer bootleg of the show at this link:

If Jack Black stepped in for Plant, then maybe they wouldn't suck.

Only thing funnier than that is Jack White's adulation/hero-worship of Led Zeppelin.

Yes! Well, hopefully they don't rob us with tickets prices. I read an interview where Robert and Jimmy said they were disappointed to return to a show full of suits.

He can't really hit all the notes he used to, but as you can hear on the O2 boots, he does just fine in most of the songs, especially "Kashmir". They did tune down a step on a bunch of songs though.

I think tuning down made Dazed and Confused much better at O2, more psychedelic.
