New Staff Writers and the Contributor Overhaul

As some of you may have noticed (and to those of you who've been living under a boulder lately), the contributing status overhaul took effect within the past couple weeks.

We have also been looking to promote somewhere between 2-3 (give or take - this has been ongoing for awhile) more writers to the reviewing staff. The promotions will more than likely come first before Dave and I start promoting writers to contributing status.

There were eleven [serious] applicants to the staff writing position, who (among others) have been contacted for Phase III of the application process. Essentially a mini-audition, the applicants were asked by to meet certain criteria I had laid out to them.

It has been discussed, to some degree (although not set in stone), that we are going to strive for approximately a 3:1 contributor:staff ratio (id est, for every staff writer, there will be about three contributing reviewers). Whether or not this proposal sees the light of day remains to be seen, but it is one proposal that has been offered.

What this basically means is that contributing status will have a much higher designation than what they previously were, as spots will be at a premium. Also: contributing reviewers may be cyclical based on activity or inactivity. Lastly, the current staff will have some say in who gets promoted to staff positions as well as contributing positions.

Again: the promotions for both tiers are a couple weeks away, but either Dave or myself will keep you posted.

Reminders

While Sputnikmusic focuses on American release dates, reviews may be published if a record has been officially released somewhere in the world and/or there is a legitimate stream somewhere online. It is encouraged - for everyone's sake, really - to find streamable content if you elect to publish reviews prior to the American release date.

The listening parties have been slow lately. Did you all forget that you can request listening parties? Simply follow the guidelines located in the LP Request Thread (http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=560841) and we can kickstart the LP feature.

As you can tell, we could use a new logo. Are any of you good with Photoshop/MSPaint/whatever? Send your proposals over to the community forums (http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=563072) and if we see one that we like, it'll be our new logo for the news page.

Either Dave or myself will try to write these site news updates on Sundays. The aim is to keep you up-to-date on things occurring in music for the upcoming week as well as give a bit of an inside look on some of the discussions that take place. We'll keep doing them if people like them, but if no one cares, then so be it.

Until next time,
Jom (on behalf of Dave)

Klimt 1918
Just in Case We'll Never Meet Again

That would be an album I'd like to see reviewed, I don't think anyone has ever reviewed any albums by this band before. The album came out late June so it's still pretty fresh I guess?
