The Arcade Fire on Fox?

2008-02-04 by camdizzle | 15 Comments
Some of you sports fans may have been surprised to hear the Arcade Fire's song "No Cars Go" in the background for an "NFL on Fox" commercial yesterday during the Superbowl. So was the band apparently, as Fox did not ask for permission to use the song, nor was permission given to them by the band or their label. So far, no legal issues have been discussed by the band as far as whether or not Fox owes any sort of money or deserves punishment.

I would be mad. "You used our song without permission - during the SUPER BOWL!??"

Everything used during the Superbowl is a big deal. Millions of dollars changes hands during the organization of the thing. Try finding another band that wasn't paid for the right to use their music. The AF should be very mad.

They used No Cars Go during the fireworks here in Sydney during the New Years celebrations over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, it was f'ucking majestic, almost perfect. So its a good song for them big things, though I'm sure Sydney had permission for that one.

I saw it and it definitely wasn't just four seconds.

I KNEW it was AF they used there! I was sitting there asking "Wait, isn't that Arcade Fire?" Also, Eliminator's right - it was way more than just four seconds.

you are allowed to have 30 secs(if i remember correctly from journalism) without being in any legal trouble but i think you still have to credit the song...

That's a sweet song. I don't have anything to say about the legal aspect of this though.

Man this song is used everywhere.

I was in the house and i heard it being played and walked in and saw it being played over the freckin snooker! ha.

also seen it on a skate video (although it was the EP veriison)

Seriously though the song just screams montage.
