A Perfect Circle to break up? 2006-05-18 by Alex101 | 18 Comments | A Perfect Circle guitarist Billy Howerdel has told MTV.com that he is not so sure what the future holds for the band. "We don't know what's happening," he said. "[A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan and I have] talked about it lightly. A few months ago, it was like, 'If we did A Perfect Circle again, I'd want to do this or that.' It was a benign conversation. I think we both entertain the fact that it could happen again, but for right now we don't have any plans to do it again. We're focusing on what we're doing now. A Perfect Circle is done for now."
In the meantime, Howerdel has begun sculpting and recording material on his own, bouncing ideas off session drummer Josh Freese. He's written 14 tracks, nine of which he's content with.
"I'm doing the same thing I've always done, which is writing songs from the heart, doing what comes naturally to me and writing songs that wouldn't be hard to fit into the A Perfect Circle mold," he explained. "In the beginning, when I started writing this stuff, I set out to do something very different. But if this is going to be my main focus, I want it to be what feels really right to me, and not just a side project or whatever you want to call it. It's not a huge departure. It just feels like I'm working on music the way I always have, with the difference being I don't have my partner Maynard coming in and singing lyrics over it; I'll be doing all the singing. It feels a bit lonely right now, because you get used to something and you want to go back to that comfort space. This is making me look at music in a different way."

noooo!!!
| | | Yeah, like Maynard's gonna be busy recording the new Tool album or something...
| | | APC use to be my favorite band. I havn't listened to them again, but they got me
into more 'diffrent' music. This Message Edited On 05.18.06
| | | I think Billy was always holding back his material until he had MJK on-board each time.
Now he's going it alone, at least we can expect more material that is of an APC nature, even if its not under the same name. Billy's voice may not be MJK, but the signature APC sound always came from Billy anyway
| | | I never did like APC... not sure what it was, but I just couldn't get into them....
Oh well, as long as Tool dosen't break up
| | | good. Emotive was crap.
| | | Tool is a lot better anyways. It is good they are breaking apart.
| | | Folks, learn to read. There is in no way clearly stated that APC break up. People should know by now that projects that Maynard works on always go on longer breaks. Between "13th Step" and "Mer de Noms" were 3 years, since Lateralus 5 years passed.
I think you should all chill, and safe the chaos for a time when the end of APC is officially and definately. And not just a "We won't be working on new APC material now"

| | | Emotive wasn't great although Passive was a good song. APC or not, Billy Howerdel is a good songwriter so I'm interested in what he's come up with.
| | | I only really liked 13th step but I liked it alot
havnt heard Emotive
| | | it is better this way... mer de noms and thirteenth step were amazing, but then they just started going downhill... i agree, emotive was crap.
| | | only good song on emotive is 'passive', 13th step and Mer De Noms' are freakin sweet, Emotive isnt good.
| | | They introduce a new way of music, they made a perfect combination with the music and the vocals of Maynard, very inspirational music and lyrics.
| | | Then what CD are you talking about? it better not be eMotive, because i didn't like that one as much as the other two
| | | i wouldn't say emotive was crap....sure, it wasn't on the same level at all as mer de noms and thirteenth step, but considering the fact that most of the songs on there were covers, i think it was pretty good for what it was trying to do... besides, APC's version of imagine is way better than the original...
| | | i agree
| | | havent heard emotive but thirteenth step is just bloody brilliant. it always makes me get that big love feeling inside. it just so good!!!! i got into them in late-2007. a long time after APC left the world. hope they will come back but if they don't at least they've got two great albums to their name.
| | | well commenting on this 2 yrs after the topic started, apc has officially ended their career together. i personally think that emotive was an amazing album, the reason i can see why most of you would think otherwise is because it's not really APC. all the songs on emotive with exception to passive and counting bodies like sheep were cover songs. and the vocals on fiddle and the drum were phenomenal. i wouldn't go as far as to say that imagine was better than the original by john lennon, that's pushing it, but it was an amazing album i think.
