jesus i hate this band, and i hate myself more for inevitably listening to the entire album once it comes out
|
| |
They've entered the typical post-fame complacency period. Stadium Arcadium was the last album of theirs that I really enjoyed. I'll probably still skim this when it comes out to see if there are any gems though.
|
| |
Love what John and Flea did in this song but I still hate Anthony with a fiery passion.
|
| |
this band really needs to split up. although they suck now i still love the way frusciante plays guitar.
|
| |
so much hate but the peppers give you unlimited love anyway.
jokes aside, this felt short, but different. Mildly and cautiously interested
but yeah, Anthony is BY FAR the worst thing about this band and always has been obviously
|
| |
We can only hope they put autotune on his vocals on their next album in a year.
|
| |
It's a bit flat, but there are some interesting chord choices throughout and the outro (starting at 3:08) is cool... John's lead guitar right where it belongs, taking emphasis off Anthony's vocals
|
| |
To be honest, RHCP hasn't had a great song since By the Way (Stadium Arcadium is actually awful guys) and they haven't had a consistently good album since One Hot Minute
The pop success of Californication ruined this band... so much of their work after it just seemed to try to be the next Otherside or the next Scar Tissue OVER AND OVER AND OVER
You guys complain about Kiedis's vocals, but the real problem is how predictable and generic they've become
That being sad... song's meh, but it at least it's better than fucking Dani California or Snow. 3/5
|
| |
Not bad.
|
| |
Smooth
|
| |
Ars, Stadium is actually my second favorite RHCP
and at least Anthony ditched that ridiculous hat
|
| |
This is good but damn so much hate in here lol
|
| |
i must have missed the latest hate-train: why don't we like Anthony?
|
| |
this is good, still immensely respect these guys even if I don't like some of their quirkiness
|
| |
So average
You can see that having John back gave Anthony a lil bit more power on the vocals, but this sounds like a Stadium Arcadium b-side of a b-side.
Well... expecting something refreshing from old bands. Cant do that
|
| |
I think the only revived one is Flea, tbh. He's adding some sweet licks here and there
|
| |
I am kinda shocked by the complaints. I guess there are some Josh Klinghoffer fans on here? Best song by them since Stadium Arcadium. I think this is the first thread where I have seen someone openly prefer One Hot Minute over Californication and By The Way even though it is wrong. (Edit: Nvm, Ars totally loves Mr. Bungle so that makes a lot more sense now.)I am sorry but One Hot Minute has a good Side A, a boring and dull side B. Californication is a consequential album yes, but I prefer it over anything RHCP has done except BSSM. Some edgy opinions in here.
|
| |
Everything but the vocals was good, if Anthony wasn’t singing with a terrible accent and gave it a little more I think the song would be fine, John sounds great
|
| |
One of the most overrated bands of all time. Bland, stale, predictable and safe. No thanks.
|
| |
liking his new folky voice, hope these guys start singing about hobbits soon
|
| |
" a boring and dull side B."
Falling into Grace and Shallow Be Thy Game both are very underrated.
I feel like I come from a perspective that RHCP was at their best when they were funky so their plainer alt rock songs are often just like zzzzz
Like even Californication's best moment is easily Purple Stain (band hasn't been like that in so long except for shitposts like Hump de Bump)
|
| |
Imagine thinking Stadium Arcadium is awful lolol What a bad take
|
| |
lmao why does Anthony sound like Charles Bronson
|
| |
as someone who has only listened to 2 RHCP songs in my entire life. I absolute did not hate this. It was kind of a jam.
|
| |
Will probably be over-hated. It's just a bit bland, which is a shame because it felt like Klinghoffer's presence was pushing the band in some new directions on The Getaway.
|
| |
really really really boring
|
| |
I do like the guitar and bass work a lot though
|
| |
The vocals are actually good.
|
| |
Best band ever
|
| |
Impossible to overhate these pampered overgrown frat boys but if you enjoy anything they've done this century there's no reason this shouldn't do it for ya at least a little
|
| |
at least it's better than suck my kiss
|
| |
The undisputed kings of douche-rock have returned to remind me why I loathed them so much in the first place. Absolutely tumor inducing.
|
| |
Did Anthony move to the west country
|
| |
I hate this band but every once in a while they have a good song and this is one of them.
|
| |
Decent. Cheer up
|
| |
Fucking LOL the GOAT Frusciante graces them with his presence for a third time and Kiedis thanks him by singing a sea shanty with an absurd Irish accent? Honestly
Guitar sounds decent though, passable ripoff of Hendrix's 'Jungle'
Looking forward to the instrumental tracks as per usual
|
| |
nice song
|
| |
"Fucking LOL the GOAT Frusciante graces them with his presence for a third time and Kiedis thanks him by singing a sea shanty with an absurd Irish accent? Honestly"
I think we can close this thread now cuz no one's gonna top this comment. I lol'd for real
|

2.9/5
|
| |
Anthony O’ Kiedis
|
| |
can someone explain this to me
|
| |
They played it safe, the end.
|
| |
Song was good except for Anthony's atrocious Irish accent
|
| |
Guys Froosh is back, some of us have been waiting 16 years for this, let us fanboy.
|
| |
No. No fun allowed.
|
| |
Dull af. I also completely forgot that John came back and they threw the other guy out. Super douchey move imo, especially since their last album was the best thing they’d done in a long time. Looks like John’s bringing nothing to the table again
|
| |
Haven’t listened yet but if John is happy then I will probably be happy too, John is one of the single most amazing musicians ever and his solo albums far outweigh RHCP, looking forward to trying this.
|
| |
Man that guitar is totally John.
|
| |
Yeah part of me it hoping that rejoining inspires John to put out some more guitar based solo albums again.
Curtains and Empyrean are two of my all time favourite albums.
|
| |
Yes please re solo JF
Listened to Curtains again the other day for the first time in probably 5 years and it is even better than I remember
Also sup WhiteNoise! Hope you are well
|
| |
that Celtic vocal affectation
|
| |
Always nice to see Froosh but damn, song is very flat.
|
| |
douche rock [2]
|
| |
It's alright, the production has some warmth to it and it bops along nicely. That's all it really needed to do.
|
| |
Yeaaaah it's just a dirty black summmerrr
twaaang twaannanngg twannnnngggg
|
| |
Song is fine. The guys are pushing 60, did we really expect some wild Frusciante solo influence in a RHCP record?
|
| |
No we didjt
|
| |
Ars speaking nonsense. Overplayed they may be, but there are excellent songs on Arcadium
This feels tired though. Good song, but it doesn't stand out
|
| |
You guys are some bitter motherfuckers
|
| |
Why are we all being grouped as one? 🙂
|
| |
Still amazed on how this guys survived the 90s. Althrough i´m exploring another kind of music nowadays, RHCP will always be RHCP, so in honor of my 15 year old version, i´m gonna listen to it.
And i probably will enjoy it.
|
| |
Probably 🙂
|
| |
Sounds like a royalty-free jam or something
|
| |
Flea and John makes this song.
|
| |
Decent song. Agreed, GoonFiles: Flea and John are the special sauce on this track.
|
| |
still looking forward to the album for johns playing, he hasn't been with them since stadium
|
| |
this made me want to jam Blood Sugar Sex Magik again, so much time since I last heard it, used to dig that album a lot
|
| |
sometimes I feel like I have an error in my SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1
sometimes I feel like my only friend
|
| |
Stadium Arcadium was decent but since then there's been nothing consistent. I definitely agree with others that much of their music is generic and predictable with little to get excited about. Flea's still one of the best bassists out there though!
|
| |
I honestly haven't heard them in a long time, and I also haven't heard anything beyond By The Way from them. And I don't know man, I can understand it's definitely an overplayed band and yea they haven't done anything mind-blowing, but I really think they are far from being bland and generic, at least from BSSM through Californication.
|
| |
great song and a whole lot of asshurt here to make it sweeter, stay pissy sput
|
| |
I think musically they are still a very good band, Kiedis is the weakest link imo
|
| |
hope for more John singing on the album, too. The back and forth between him and Anthony works well
|
| |
Why do they always have that wooly, overly loud production
|

The new John Frusciante stuff coming out this year nuts. Remade While My Guitar Gently weeps into a rap song
https://youtu.be/1CXZ5U1ApLc
|
| |
Not too bad, sounds like them for sure
Maybe a tired version of themselves
|
| |
New song is dope!
Still wondering why Kiedis is rockin' that weird-ass hairdo with the 'stache.
|
| |
“The new John Frusciante stuff coming out this year nuts. Remade While My Guitar Gently weeps into a rap song”
That sounds terrible
|
| |
unveil yourself some bitches first
|
| |
anthony has hep c
|
| |
I love Frusciante being back in the band, but this is their first single? It’s not terrible, but it’s not that great. I hope they have some better material than this.
|
| |
Best song I’ve ever heard in my life.
|
| |
oh for fuck's sake, I actually like this now
|
| |
i like it too, everything except for Anth's stupid fucking accent
|
| |
Song is awesome yeah
|
| |
"Sounds like a royalty-free jam or something"
lol accurate
|
| |
Never got the hate for Anthony. His voice has sucked live for years now, yeah. But in studio he's pretty cool
|
| |
Song is decent but not amazing. The haters are definitely hilarious though, so puzzlingly fervent in their hatred. "A band I don't absolutely love has found mainstream success, my skin is burning ahhhhh"
RHCP having mainstream success is like the least evil of all the possible mainstream rock evils, you all should be grateful. Think about the alternatives (Imagine Dragons, etc.)
"Never got the hate for Anthony. His voice has sucked live for years now, yeah. But in studio his pretty cool"
is basically true, he's awful live but his vocals stand up pretty well in (most) studio releases
|
| |
Damn, didn't expect so much hate. I *think* the track *is* neat.
Thanks Mytho
|
| |
track *is* neat
|
| |
Shrek *is* love
|
| |
"RHCP having mainstream success is like the least evil of all the possible mainstream rock evils"
A) respectfully disagree and B) are u implying that this song is succeeding in the mainstream because if so I have some bad news
|
| |
"oh for fuck's sake, I actually like this now" [2]
"everything except for Anth's stupid fucking accent" [2]
|
| |
Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets on number of times Kiedis will sing "California" on new album:
a) 5
b) 50
c) 100
|
| |
"are u implying that this song is succeeding in the mainstream because if so I have some bad news"
16 million views on that video in about a week and a half. Seems pretty dece, especially given that Avril's single from 3 months ago has 17 million and the Muse single from a month ago has 7.7 milion.
|
| |
Hmm according to billboard its underperforming compared to most of their post-1991 singles
|
| |
