YOB Halt Shows for Scheidt

2026-09-09 by John Marinakis CONTRIBUTOR | 5 Comments
YOB have cancelled their immediate live plans due to guitarist and vocalist Mike Scheidt experiencing nerve damage caused by cervical spinal stenosis.

Scheidt first noticed intermittent tingling in his left hand before awakening several weeks later with intense pain in his neck, shoulder and arm. He also found himself unable to move his left arm properly and sought emergency medical attention.

An MRI revealed calcium deposits around an area of arthritis in his neck. These are compressing a nerve and impairing the function of his left arm and hand, currently preventing him from playing guitar normally.

YOB have consequently withdrawn from RippleFest Texas and cancelled their October appearances at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, the Soulcrusher festival in the Netherlands and concerts presented by Smoke the Fuzz in Greece.

Scheidt is awaiting further consultation with a neurologist and surgeon. Although an operation appears likely, he said the anticipated procedure would be minimally invasive and characterized the situation as a temporary setback.

The band added that further details will be shared once Scheidt's treatment plan becomes clearer.

YOB are also preparing their first studio album since 2018's Our Raw Heart

Terrible news. Mike has been plagued by a number of health issues over the past 10–12 years, which might also explain why YOB's last album came out all the way back in 2018. I wish him nothing but the best and hope he makes a speedy recovery and eventually finds his way back to music. He's one of the most important metal guitarists of the 21st century, and I feel he still has a lot left to give. Really hoping everything goes well for him.

Terrible news indeed, and thank got the operation is minimally invasive, because standard operations of the sort are a gamble.

Here's to a speedy recovery.
