I'm actually a bit hopeful for this one. The overly long songs make me think LaBire's vocal lines are sparser and easier for him to sing. Even if it's self-indulgent (of course it will be), hopefully it's not generic. LTE 3 and Petrucci's solo album might have revamped their inspiration.
Album art is not great, but not terrible either.

I haven't been excited for a new DT album for a long time, but I am looking forward to listening to the t/t. If there's one thing that DT has always delivered on, it's 20+ minute t/t epics (A Change of Seasons, Octavarium, Six Degrees).

Getting strange 90s vibes from that album art, but I like it. Another thing about this album is that it was written during the height of the pandemic, with the band being mostly remote from each other–despite finishing construction of "Dream Theater Headquarters" (DTHQ) studio.
There's a few other bands I'm worried whose new albums could have been negatively affected by the pandemic, such as Skyharbor and Closure In Moscow.
|
| |
Looking at those track times I’m appropriately pumped for this to be good.
|
| |
Judging by the track lengths, doesn't look like there's any Sirius XM Liquid Metal staple track a la Paralyzed off the last album...
|
| |
this is the worst news today
|
| |
Ya, much worse than the news that Mike Howe, Joey Jordison, and Dusty Hill passed away...
|
| |
lmao that cover art looks so bad with those big ass shoes on it
|
| |
A View From The Top Of The World has an album cover with shoes on it, Dream Theater goes shoegaze confirmed?
|
| |
Gazing at shoes from the top of the world
|
| |
No Dream Theater album has good cover art
|
| |
Distance over Time for me was their best record since Octavarium, so I am extremely pumped for this.
|
| |
Their last album was good, so I'm hoping for more good stuff this time
|
| |
Was not a fan of their last record, but I'll still give this a shot. Hope they nix those clown boots on the cover though.
|
| |
Band should have named the new album "Social Distance over Time"
|
| |
that's gold
Last great album was ''Dramatic Turn...'', and DoT had some decent song-writing.
|
| |
I don't understand their relationship with cover arts.
|
| |
it's complicated
|
| |
Kinda lost interest after black clouds, but its probably worth giving a shot.
|
| |
Graphic design is my passion
|
| |
I don't understand their relationship with cover arts.
I do. Take the hipgnosis team put a bit of Hugh Syme in the mix and there you have it. Pure Surrealist artwork.

A DT song over 20min in 2021 is a crime against the Geneva Conventions

What part of PROGRESSIVE metal, you don't get buddy?
|

"A DT song over 20min in 2021 is a crime against the Geneva Conventions"
Only if you force POWs to listen to it.
|
| |
"No Dream Theater album has good cover art"
Octavarium's artwork rules. Dramatic Turn of Events' is great too but that one is just a copy of Supertramp's Famous Last Words
The stupid shoes ruin a somewhat decent artwork, yeah
|
| |
"Band should have named the new album "Social Distance over Time""
Save that for the remaster in 10 years
Also agreed their artworks all seem to look the same and are all really weird/bad. Like it's the same nephew who's using clip art and putting these album covers together.
|
| |
Man, their cover art has all been ass after Black Clouds. Pretty psyched for this though
|
| |
Awake, best album art
|
| |
Enjoyed the last one, hope this is decent.
|
| |
Hugh Syme has been slacking lately
|
| |
Forgot about Falling Into Infinity. Lame album but cool artwork
|
| |
Ehhh...I'll check it out as always. I haven't been into anything they've done post ADTOE but who knows, it might be good. I just hope Labrie stays within his comfortable range and doesn't stick any of his dying cat sounds on it.
|
| |
naw we have The Astonishing 2.0. in 2021.
|
| |
The self-titled is really underrated it seems
|
| |
Yea
But it's also not that good
|
| |
best album art is When Dream And Day Unite and you can't argue against that
|
| |
I can
Images and Words and Awake have better art.
There I did it
|
| |
no naked man though, 0/10
|

New track teaser:

|

No LaBrie in the teaser, might be an instrumental, fingers crossed 🤞
