Genesis back on the road 2020-03-05 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 27 Comments |
After thirteen years, legendary British progressive rock band Genesis are back on the road for a series of shows in the UK. Phil Collins, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford will hit the road for eight gigs to take place in Liverpool, Newcastle, London, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow, Scotland. Collins' eighteen-year-old son Nicholas will be playing drums and Daryl Stuermer will take charge of bass and guitar. Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett will not be participating.
Tour dates:
Nov. 23 - M&S Bank Arena - Liverpool, UK
Nov. 26 - Utilita Arena - Newcastle, UK
Nov. 29 - O2 Arena - London, UK
Nov. 30 - O2 Arena - London, UK
Dec. 02 - First Direct Arena - Leeds, UK
Dec. 05 - Arena Birmingham - Birmingham, UK
Dec. 08 - Manchester Arena - Manchester, UK
Dec. 11 - SSE Hydro - Glasgow, UK
Mike Rutherford commented on BBC Radio 2: "I think it's a natural moment. It's happened very naturally. Phil's been out on tour the last two and a half years doing his stuff and it sort of seemed ... the natural moment to have a conversation about it. We're all good friends, we're all above grass and here we are."
Phil Collins on his son's participation: "For me, it wasn't a deal breaker, but… it was a problem we had to overcome, with me not playing, although I'll be doing my best to play some bits on the tour."

Go back to 1980 and take a look at Duchess' official music video, taken from Genesis' Duke album:

Wonder if they will play any of their older stuff from the Gabriel era or only later material. Will change a hell of a lot if I (and I think many with me) would be interested in this.

They'll probably play Carpet Crawlers, but they should focus on the Post-Gabriel era.
Genesis should do some shows outside the UK. One of the bands I'm most sorry I haven't been able to see live yet. I'd love to see/hear Duke in full.

what happened to Steve Hackett? No Hackett no Genesis IMO
|
| |
I'd like to hear a song like Fly On a Windshield live.

Accurate. Everyone divides it between the Garbiel and Collins Eras but it was really when Hackett left that their sound actually moved in a more pop direction. Not a fan of latter-day Genesis but first two post-Gabriel records were great.

Recite the line of american psycho once more, and I promise you, you'll not see the light of the day, again.

never happen in the states, but might be a waste of money if they still to the md -late 80's material
|
| |
Peter Gabriel will not be participating
A bit disrespectful to him not to include Steve Hackett here. But then, I see the original article also neglects his importance in the band's history.
Would definitely be interested if they'd move it overseas, but it would probably still be way too expensive.

I didn't mean any disrespect, but yes, he should have been mentioned. Edited.
|
| |
I blame the article, not you ;)
|
| |
Didn't know they needed money that badly
|
| |
Watsup Phil? Who done it?
I didn't I didn't do it I
I, I didn't do it
I didn't I, I didn't, do it.

by the way i thought collins said he physically could not play drums anymore. so who is playing drums? and you know that probably means theyre strictly doing Collins era material, where he's singing.
|
| |
Hackett is touring at the same time this tour is happening, therefore it was never going to happen
|
| |
zzzzz
|
| |
dude i would kill to see invisible touch played live
it's what i've always dreamed of
|
| |
@Eons, it's Collins' 18 yo son who is drumming.
|
| |
No Hackett or Gabriel means we're strictly getting 80s pop Genesis, not actually-fucking-good Genesis
|
| |
You certainly don't know Duke. If you have some free time, check the song in the article.
|
| |
@Notrap, that video is not available in my country...
|
| |
Weird, it's from their official channel. Must be a copyright issue.
|
| |
I presume. And yes Duke rules hard. I bought the album when it was released. ''Duchess'' is easily a top 3 from the album. Almost all of the songs could be a top 3.

Pop-era Genesis is great, it's just totally different from their art-prog roots.
I'd LOVE to see this in the US. One of the few classic bands I would go out of my way for.

Genesis get lots of flak for their pop music but I feel lots of it is very underrated. Duke is one of Genesis' top albums and you'd have to be ridiculously high-brow to not like anything from Invisible Touch. It's just different. In the end, their only pop album I couldn't get into was Abacab.
With that said these shows will likely just be a curiosity. How's that going to be any different or better than any of their other reunion shows?
|
| |
hope they come out and for the first part of the show play the album ''Calling All Stations'' in full, haha, arguably their best album
|
| |
As funny that would be, they never played any of it ever since that particular incarnation of Genesis split up. Even they know this album was bad.
|
| |
it sucks as hard as anything yes have done mid 80s-present
