Insomnium Album Details

Finnish melodic death metal titans Insomnium recently made announcements regarding the details of their latest album. Titled Heart Like a Grave, the record--the band's eighth to be made since their 2002 debut--features 10 tracks with their total duration adding up to over an hour.

The band describes the upcoming release as another concept-centered creation. Per their Facebook post on the subject:

"The concept of the album is to delve deep into the heart of the Finnish melancholy. We’ve been inspired by some of the bleakest and saddest songs, poems and tales that truly capture the essence of northern gloom. Land where the frost ravages the harvest and creeps inside the souls, summer ends before it even starts, wife leaves, little brother dies in snow on a Christmas morning, and the golden days of youth are forever gone. So there are echoes of Harmaja, Rautavaara, Vainio, Peltoniemen Hintriikka and of course our own petty, miserable lives.”

Heart Like a Grave is slated for an October 4th release this year.
Tracklist:
1. Wail of the North
2. Valediction
3. Neverlast
4. Pale Morning Star
5. And Bells They Toll
6. The Offering
7. Mute Is My Sorrow
8. Twilight Trails
9. Heart Like a Grave
10. Karelia

In related news, the band also announced the inclusion of Jani Liimatainen as a permanent, fifth member of the group. This was in response to fellow member Ville Friman becoming more involved in his university position; Liimatainen will fill in whenever necessary while Friman will still remain in the band.

The description is a bit silly right? There's no way their lives are that sad lol.
But yeah it sounds like Insomnium doing as Insomnium does.

God can't believe grown up men can make descriptions like that and get away with it.

Hey, you'd be sad too if you spent thousands on music gear and stayed away from home for months touring and came back with your bank account in the negative lol

That's true haha. And I think they mean more existentially, in a way anyone can relate to, rather than literally.

Love these guys, always looking forward to what comes next from them. Description is hilarious but I'm always down for some gloomy metal.

I don't listen to stuff like this anymore, but they always have really good album art, so there's something.

One of my favorite bands, description is a bit too miserable though, I don't want to feel like that if I can avoid it tbh.

Never got fully into these guys, but I liked the bits of what I heard off Shadows of a Dying Sun. Will check this for sure.

I don’t know what’s gotten into Finnish bands lately, turning to their bag of dire national folklore for inspiration.

It was Forgjord this year, now it’s Insomnium.
