More Omar Rodriguez-Lopez

2007-08-02 by FlawedPerfection EMERITUS | 18 Comments
In addition to the upcoming Mars Volta album, The Bedlam in Goliath, guitarist and producer Omar Rodiriguez-Lopez will release an EP with spoken word poet Lydia Lunch. The titling takes a departure from Lopez's typical outings, simply known as Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Lydia Lunch.

Omar's previous solo release Se Dice Bisonte, No Búfalo, was a soundtrack for the movie of the same name. It was performed with Guillermo Arriaga (Babel, Amores Perros) with The Mars Volta, and the movie has its US release on August 17th

TMV new album?

It'll suck because they'll try to sound like De-Loused yet again.

Um, what?

The other album just sucked because it was just a 20-hour long borefest.

I mean, because they try to recreate De-Loused in the Comatorium which each album and its getting boring and repetitive.

Actually I think it is that they are trying to not re-create De-Loused which makes it boring and repetitive.

Personally, I believe that they are trying new stuff but it really gets stale when they are over chaotic. Look at De-loused/Tremulant/Frances, they all have their own sounds. Frances is Jazz/salsa -fusion and deloused is psycadellic prog. Tremulant is more of an ATD-I with more talent. But the thing is when they did Amputechture there was almost no soft parts, the occasional acoustic song but that really doesn't count. Tetra should have been split up and they should use more strings (violin, chello, etc.) in their stuff to really add a different feel to it.
I am excited for tBiG but I don't see it being a classic like Deloused or Frances because if it's like Amp, it will have no musical theme.

A mod or Flawed should also mention that Omar composed the soundtrack for the movie "Se Dice Bisonte, No Buffalo," written but Guillermo Arriaga (Babel, Amores Perros) and performed it with The Mars Volta group and the movie is having its US release on August 17th.

Lydia Lunch does spoken word? I didn't know. Anyways, I've long since gotten bored with Omar.

Omar needs to go away forever. As interesting as hearing him tune his guitar to spoken word could end up, I'm pretty sure I'll pass on this.

His solo work has been pretty atrocious. It sounds like he just sits in a room noodling with his guitar and a synthesizer.

I'm way excited for new TMV. Not too sure about this though, sounds...interesting. Omar's solo stuff has never really grabbed me.

Yeah, that Deloused comment was really illegitimate. The reason they've gone downhill is they've lost a lot of the cohesiveness and focus they had on Deloused in my opinion.
