didn't really lose my shit over it on first listen, but if i remember right I thought similarly of the first single from In Times and I loved the full album

Sounds a bit like the Below the Lights/ISA albums. Very promising.
| |
All aboard the hype train! Choo choo!!!!
| |
oh shit this is cool. RIITIIR kinda made me start to disregard these guys but im liking this
| |
meh i don't feel anything anymore with this band
| |
idk what people see in this kind of sound. the heavy parts were good but my god the clean vox and the cheese/prog are offensively bad
| |
liked this one a lot actually. much more than most of the stuff from in times
| |
Great atmosphere, great fusion of styles, great production, cleans are fine. They've never had great cleans but relative to contrast it's worked out just fine. This actually reminds me more of the material off of Vertebrae than Below the Lights/Isa.
| |
ye what crysis said, wtf are those vocals
| |
Not really digging this.
| |
They never had good cleans? Ethica Odini had great cleans. And some great songs.
This one is garbage.
| |
odini has meh cleans and repetitive songwriting ;))

Sounds good to me
| |
I'd like it more if the production wasn't so tight.
| |
The production doesn't seem that tight to me. The musicianship is tight though. Drums sound nice and organic
| |
I never got a cheesy vibe from the clean vox tbh.
| |
The heavy syncopated riff is really cool but the prog sections in this are kinda boring. They just drag and don't really go anywhere. Seems like they're just there to be like, "check it out, we have clean prog sections."
| |
I just looked at the average ratings for this band. It's pretty cool to see that they just don't have a bad album.
| |
"I never got a cheesy vibe from the clean vox tbh"
they're basic cookie-cutter prog metal cleans. not necessarily cheesy but boring as hell
| |
I can see why people would think they're boring I guess, but idk I don't get cheesy. I've always dug them but I'm usually biased when it comes to this band.
| |
since when did we start hating enslaved?
frost?
| |
ye they never topped their debut tbh
| |
I actually dig this full prop direction they've been going in. My biggest problem is that the harsh vocals feel kind of week. They go well with more of a traditional black metal sound, like the section that starts around the 6 minute mark, but earlier in the song they sound so out of place. Also, the new clean vocals don't sound as good as the previous guy's. Overall, however, I enjoyed it, and am excited to hear more.
| |
full prop
| |
you never go full prop.
| |
I respect that they took a different direction and tried something different, and especially since the last album was more or less a regurgitation of the last two albums (albeit more polished and less memorable); however, this is very poorly executed in my view, the entire song meanders with poor transitions, the blend of clean vocals and screams doesn't blend well, and this is a shame given that the individual sections of the song aren't inherently bad. I really hope that the entire album isn't this bland.
| |
The ending (last like 3-4 minutes) are really strong, imo. The black metal parts and the video is really cool too.
| |
i like it
| |
I mean basically all of their albums are at least great so it's hard to expect anything less for this one.
| |
I thought it was good. Will give album a chance. Not Great, though.
| |
Enslaved is one of those bands I find easy to like, but hard to love.
| |
"since when did we start hating enslaved?
frost?"
I've liked most of what they've done but this song just isn't very interesting for the most part. The prog sections on AEO were all a lot more interesting than this
| |
I totally agree, RIITIR was okay but I felt like it was a letdown compared to AOE and it's been downhill since for me. This is a return to the more melodic progressive thing but it didn't really grab me. Death in the eyes on dawn was the last song I heard by them that was up to par in my opinion.

They playing with opeth here later in the year, cba going
