Austin Lundr's genre-bouncing black metal band Panopticon has begun streaming his sixth full-length album, Autumn Eternal, through Bandcamp.

The album comes on the heels of last year's well-received Roads to the North.

The album can currently be ordered through the Swedish Nordvis label.

Roads was a good culmination of every style he's done so far (sans crust punk).

Just finished listening to it, and it outdoes Roads to the North.
The songwriting is superb.

If I could compare this album to anything, it'd probably be Nokturnal Mortum's last album. It's got soaring melodies throughout the album, and there there are moments like the ending of Into the North Woods that are ridiculously epic with mellotrons and tubular bells. I've liked everything this guy has done, but this is the only album that's really blown me away.

i thought that was possible, but usually guest vocals are listed on the bandcamp page and i didn't see any so i figured it was austin

edit: jk they are listed on the official bandcamp page that you linked. not austin

double edit: wtf the track listing is different between these two sites

You guys need to check out Heart of Akamon by Nechochwen. They are on Bindrune and they are doing a project with Austin next year. Killer band if you like blackened folk with Native American elements.

Will listen to this later, Panopticon rules.

Collapse's production bothered me, but I did find it off the internet so it might've been a bad rip. In any case I've only heard bits and pieces from this band and it all sounded like pretty solid genre-bending black metal, but this sounds like it could be their best yet. It also fits with what I want to listen to this time of year, sounds great so far.

Yeah there's a story to that actually... some of the earlier rips of it appearing on blogs were actually ripped from his myspace page, but the myspace tracks were actually like the unmastered mixes so they didn't sound nearly as good. He made a facebook post a few years ago laughing at us for listening to a crappy pirated rip. And then (I'm pretty sure this happened and I'm not imagining) when I made a snarky "oh yeah well show us what the real mix is like" comment, dude sent me a dl link to the legit version.

tl;dr you probably have the crappy unfinished mix people ripped from his myspace loooool

"mm after the first spin I'd say that Roads felt more unique than this"

I'd agree, but the last two records had the tendency towards awkward songwriting on the songs with the most bluegrass influence. This album definitely exchanges experimentation for a greater emphasis on cohesion, and it resulted in an incredible album (for me anyways).

Never thought his first two were anything special. Solid but kinda generic. His music got more and more unique/interesting (thought not necessarily better) over time. Thought Roads summed up his musical journey quite nicely. Looking forward to this.
