Al Gore Reforms Spinal Tap

2007-04-25 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 17 Comments
Fed up of the supposed "rock" scene? Tired of all these "joke" band reformations, like The Police, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Rage Against The Machine? Fed up that the record store no longer stocks Led Zeppelin tapes? You know you are.

Well, prepare to rejoice.

Legendary heavy metal group Spinal Tap are set to end their five-year hiatus this summer, turning London's Wembley stadium green for a day as part of Al Gore's crusade against Global Warming otherwise known as his presidential bid [don't you mean Live Earth?- ed.], sharing a stage with the likes of James Blunt and Snow Patrol, hopefully at the same time.

The one-off performance will reunite miniature horse breeder Nigel Tufnell (guitar), hip hop producer/colonic irrigator David St. Hubbins (guitar) and internet addict Derek Smalls (Ned Flanders) and an unsuspecting drummer for their first time since their 2001 Back From The Dead tour.

The band will also release a one-off single to promote the gig, entitled 'Warmer Than Hell.'

They were created for comedic purposes, but they have toured in the past, so their legitimacy is entirely dependant on how you look at it. Definitely not fictitious though, you weren't looking for that word.

Does that mean that the bass player did the voice for Ned Flanders?

This is awesome news. I met Harry Sheerer (Spinal Tap's bassist) a few months ago. He was really funny, and his new book's a hilarious. This Message Edited On 04.26.07
