Stream New Anubis Opus

2014-05-30 by Mad. | 9 Comments
Australian progressive rockers Anubis have released their 3rd album, Hitchhiking To Byzantium for streaming via bandcamp, 30th May. The album is
their third after '230503' (2009) and the critically acclaimed 'A Tower of Silence' (2011).

In the press release the band claim "This third album, 'Hitchhiking to Byzantium' is the first Anubis album not to have a plot or narrative. It's more
of a thematic work, based on modern life. 'It's about growing older and trying to do better at things', says guitarist Dean Bennison, 'and about the
excuses we make for ourselves, all the crutches and braces that we find for ourselves along the way, and how good and bad they are for us.'"

The album can be previewed here:

Finished listening to it earlier - easily the best album of the year so far. I'm going to be writing a
review of it after a couple of listens, since I think my hype is influencing my view on it heavily.
Thanks for making this post! Anubis are criminally underrated and it's always great to see people
trying to spread the good word

Edit: I'm an idiot - I didn't realize you were Mad. lel, I was genuinely excited that someone other
than me and you paid attention to Anubis. Now I'm sad

hardly anyone listened to their last, even though it was the best neo-prog for years

Lol sorry for ruining your hopes JJ. It's awesome stuff, I'd definitely recommend it JS. Not as good as A Tower of Silence, not sure I could call it AOTY cuz the new Gazpacho's a 5 for me, plus I prefer Messenger and Ethereal Riffian's albums at the moment, but that could change...

They are indeed excellent, some of the best neo-prog around today

Dude this sound even better than their last. Still nothing here as amazing at that last guitar solo on The Passing Bell (doing Pendragon better than Pendragon) but this is way more solid

Really? That's good to hear. I haven't heard AToS for ages so maybe I'm wrong, but the Passing Bell easily stands out more than anything on here. Probably their best song. This has their best artwork, probably my favourite of the year so far
