No Eurovision For Morrissey

2007-02-25 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 7 Comments
Former Smiths frontman Morrissey will not be involved with Britain's entry in this year's Eurovision song contest, reports the BBC, who are responsible for organising the entry.

Morrissey became interested in the contest last year after another poor showing from the UK's entry 'Teenage Life,' sung by former one-hit wonder Daz Sampson, and asked the question "why didn't they ask me?"

The BBC did approach Morrissey about writing or possibly representing the UK at this year's event, however it's now been confirmed that "unfortunately, we were unable to go ahead with him being involved and we can now confirm that he definitely will not be taking part in this year's competition."

Last year's Eurovision song contest was won by Finnish heavy metal act Lordi, who shocked many by amassing 292 points while dressed in monster attire.

It's a God-awful song contest where the European states nominate an act to perform a song, broadcast to the whole of Europe. Countries then hold a phone vote to decide which act wins (with neighbouring countries invariably always voting for each other). It was at its height in the 70s, when it was a good platform for up and coming performers (Abba won with Waterloo and never looked back), but nowadays any artist with an ounce of self-respect would run shrieking in fear from it. It's the very definition of tacky.
Maybe Mozza was just fed up with the UK being eternally pathetic at it and wanted a stab. Thankfully, he's backed outThis Message Edited On 02.25.07

Not to mention that last year, Finland won it with Lordi playing Hard Rock Hallelujah.

That's weird, it's usually for up and coming artists, who then get famous after participating/winning, not the other way around.

Denmark's entry this year will be a drag queen singing a song called 'Drama Queen'. Spectacular.
