I feel like their inspiration and originality is going to take continual blows with these constant streams of albums. I'd imagine it's hard to write so many songs so quickly and still have them retain a degree of quality.

Despise this logic. If an artist is talented enough, the quality will be consistent. It's a matter of the listener either getting sick of what the band does, or having listened for the wrong reasons to begin with. The rate at which an artist creates is not culpable for any dip in quality, the artist's creativity is.
In my experiences, artists who release at a quicker rate end up being more consistent and creative. They seem to be much more passionate about the art of crafting music, instead of letting external factors impede their art.

Except it seems that their quality of music has decreased the more they put out.

Okay, well David Bowie released his three best albums from 1971-73 and three other indubitably classic albums from 1976-77. Led Zeppelin released 6 classic, influential records between 1969 and 1975, two of which were released in the same year and all were written and recorded in incredibly short periods of time. Miles Davis released two of the most influential jazz albums in the same year (1969) and then three more great albums in the next year. John Frusciante released four fantastic albums from 2004-05. The Jimi Hendrix Experience released three of most influential guitar records of all time between 1967-68. I'm noticing a recurring contrast between the most prolific and most influential artists - that's not to say that quantity = quality, the point is that certain artists and musicians can have match high output with high quality.

I'm no fan of hip-hop, but I even I can recognize Death Grips make great music. Most interesting group in their genre IMO.

I was a little confused by the wording on this story. Is Zach Hill not going to be on the upcoming tour, or was he just missing on the last one? I'm seeing them on June 9 and I was hoping he'd be playing.
|
| |
Except it seems that their quality of music has decreased the more they put out.
They've put out three albums. The first and third are about the same quality and the second is a little bit better. Elitist exaggeration. It's not "credible" as a music critic to love everything that a band does, for whatever reason. The more albums a band puts out, the more strict reviewers become in combing for flaws, sometimes even creating them.
The only times, I find, that there are legitimate drops in recording quality, is when there is a line-up change. The other times are due to a change in motivation; perhaps they write for a larger audience as opposed to writing out of passion. Luckily, I mostly listen to bands where one or two people make all of the music so I don't have to worry much about that.

Band rips forreal

One should consider that inspiration also comes with events and new experiences. The making of this film and the relationship of it with the music should at least give them some ideas. Given that I love their style, I'll give this a try without a doubt.
|
| |
band's ok
money store held my attention for a little bit
|
| |
about two songs
|
| |
How about a full tour cycle with a complete band that would be nice...
|
| |
Fucking love this guys. I do not think they have released a bad album. Really stoked.
|
| |
Most exciting band in the world. Can't fucking wait.
|
| |
man I was kind of enjoying the slowed down output from these guys, but alas, all good things must eventually come to an end
|
| |
Money Store and a couple songs off Exmilitary are the only things i can get into from these guys
|
| |
Why would you enjoy less of a band? If you're listening to them too much just wait to listen to new albums or something wtf
|
| |
I honestly wouldn't give a shit if MC Ride wasn't in this band though, dude pulls the weight of this group.
|
| |
I get more excited about new material from these guys than any other band right now. they're just on a wholly unique level. and judging from Flatlander's remixes during their boiler room set they'll hopefully be getting back to the insanely complex production of The Money Store next time around.
|
| |
the joke was that I hate this band
it was a useless post by me but hey I was hungover
|
| |
i tried really hard to like this band because of fantano but it's failing
|
| |
dear god

Death Grips divides the room = hey you're an artist!
|

I don't really hate hese guys but sometimes it makes me sad that this is what zach hill will mostly be remembered for

It's not as if Zach was doing anything that innovative before DG. If anything, what he's doing now is more note-worthy, although DG isn't my cup of tea, either.
|
| |
Sounds like a system blower
|
| |
He's innovative in that his drumming for hella shat on my mind more than anyone else
|
| |
I was really into Death Grips for a little while, but it got old pretty fast. I prefer the non-hip hop projects of Zach Hill. He'll probably move on to something different pretty soon.
|
| |
I don't understand why so many people hold such a flagrant disposition for this group. It's just their nature, I guess.
