Really like this, it has that good old classic progressive rock feel like the old legendary songs of the 70s.

They're really hyping this up as their best album yet... I can't wait.
I've already pre-ordered the limited edition boxset thing.

i thought octopus has an unexpectedly high % of good songs given just how many there are and how long each is, the band somehow kept it pretty fresh for most of the time (except that last little bit of Disc 2...bleh)

yeh pwalcher, too few ideas stretched too thin, would have worked better as a single album, some great tracks tho among the overlong bits

What were the filler tracks? The Emperor I see but the rest of them are great, album's a solid 4.5 for me.

Interstellar is I think my favorite song by them, man when that song really gets going, i'll be damned if that isn't some of the best rock i've ever heard

Wasnt so much filler, just felt like some ideas went on too long and got a bit dull. Sorta forgiveable since droning repeating stuff is usually in space rock but wasn't enough to keep me hooked in places. Great album overall tho.

I liked their first and second albums, Skipped the Octopus for some reason. I like this

The only bad part about the octopus was that his voice didn't work with the hard rock parts at all. It just ended up sounding super cheesy.

These fuckers write some of the meatiest and juiciest riffs out there. They always hit the spot (their best one is from "The Consultancy" IMO)

Sel has an awesome voice! I love his "The wave is breah-keeing" from The Wave and "Where do we go from heah?!" from Golden Ratio. IMO, it's one of the defining parts of the band.

Roland, if you liked their other stuff, I'd definitely get the Octopus.

The riff on Interstellar has gotta be one of their best.

I remember buying octopus and it was pretty sweet.

their self-titled is rad, if a little silly.

Their albums have gotten sillier. The Octopus has some great tracks but it was too strung up in its own 'epic', sci-fi concepts for my liking. Hopefully this record returns back to some of the more accessible songwriting of their debut album. Songs like 'Airborne', 'On/Off' and 'One Great Summer' were simply mindblowing.

What I like is how, no matter how 'epic' they've always got a tongue in cheek element.
