NIN Album Title Revealed

2007-01-11 by Jom | 12 Comments
Over the past couple months, we here at Sputnikmusic have been documenting the Trent Reznor-led Nine Inch Nails and their on-going musical endeavors. As previously reported in various degrees, NIN have a DVD coming February 27 entitled Beside You In Time (http://www.sputnikmusic.com/news.php?newsid=2140). Further, Reznor wrote on December 14, 2006:

We begin mixing [the new album] in January! Juggling fifteen all-new tracks around. Testing sequences. No leftovers from With Teeth. Highly conceptual. Quite noisy. Fucking cool.

Now, the album title has finally been revealed: Year Zero.

According to Kerrang! magazine, Reznor says:

[The new album is] a collage of sound type of thing, not heavy in a metal guitar kind of way. With this record I feel a lot less concerned about what people think about it — especially the dying record industry. I couldn't care less about that right now... [the album is] part of a bigger picture of a number of things I'm working on. Essentially I wrote the soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist.

Reznor also said that the new album was recorded "in hotel rooms around the world on laptops," with very few musicians beside himself and "maybe some surprise vocalists that pop up here and there."

God. I love Nine Inch Nails! Can't wait for the new album. It's gotta be good as my favorite album The Downard Spiral.

Much better title than With Teeth. I'm actually really looking forward to this.

"Essentially I wrote the soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist."

This is pretty cliche by now. I'm pretty sure the whole imaginary soundtrack is a cop-out for what would otherwise be a boring and disjointed album.

This seems really soon, but now that I look at the time line I guess it isn't.

I prefer NIN when it's more electronic than rock/metal, so this sounds like it will be great. Trent is really making fast progress on this.
