John Frusciante announces two new records 2012-05-28 by dimsim3478 | 35 Comments |
Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has announced via email to update subscribers that two new records are set for release this year. The first is Letur-Lefr, an EP of selected material produced in 2010, which will be released in North America on July 17th (July 4th in Japan). The second is a full-length album which Frusciante had been working on through 2011 entitled PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone, set for a September 12th release in Japan, and September 25th in North America. Both releases will be issued in CD, vinyl, cassette and digital formats.
Frusciante defines his approach to the records as "progressive synth pop", while also noting that the term "says nothing about what it sounds like". He also established that electronic instruments will feature prominently, and that the material will "combine aspects of many styles of music". The two records are also expected to be "very different from each other", as Frusciante describes.
Pre-orders for the Letur-Lefr EP are available at his new official website, with pre-orders for PBX forthcoming in early August, alongside a free download of an outtake from PBX entitled "Walls and Doors" which will be available prior to the album's release.
Frusciante has remained relatively under-the-radar since his work on his tenth studio album, The Empyrean (released in 2009) and the following collaborations with Omar Rodriguez-López. When consulted regarding Frusciante's absence on the latest Mars Volta record (Frusciante having been a constant session member) by Blare Magazine, Rodriguez-López responded that "maybe in the future [we will collaborate again], but John's in a different place right now. He's in a place where he couldn’t care less about putting things out or about something being a product. He’s living by different standards right now with a different philosophy, so he doesn't want to be a part of anything that he knows is going to end up being a product. A Mars Volta record definitely ends up being a product."

Got the rolled up bill and 8 ball ready
|
| |
fuck yeah
|
| |
pretty sure this will rule.
|
| |
I can't even begin to explain my excitement.
New song is sweet, if not far too short.
|
| |
Holy shit I knew the EP was coming but now an LP too this is great news!
|
| |
As long as he's sticking with his psychedelic/prog sound, I'm in.
|
| |
He probably won't be..
|
| |
All I know is that it won't be a product, if John has any say in things.
|
| |
dankly
|
| |
fuck yes
|

I love John's DIY cover art, it looks like a child's finger painting. Sweet. Reminiscent of his cover art for Smile
|
| |
I hope these both sound exactly like Smile From the Streets You Hold.
|
| |
Finally some news on this man
|
| |
so what he is trying to say is he has no clue what these records sound like. should be awesome.
|
| |
Prog synth pop? Let me just wait and see what this will be like but no doubt it is going to be amazing. So stoked.
|
| |
Just listened to 'Glowe' it's sweet, sounds like a remix of 'Dark/Light'. Real shame it's only like 90 seconds though
|
| |
Nice to see him coming out of his hermit writing phase to share an update, this is sick.
Omar wasn't lying when he said John was going insane in the amount of quality and quantity he produced ever since he left RHCP. Each song will be a bigger boner than the one before it. Haven't been this excited in awhile

| |
So, progressive synth pop that doesn't necessarily sound anything like progressive synth pop... I'm in!
|
| |
cool
|
| |
Excellent. Its criminal that I only have To Record... and The Empyrean at the moment.
|
| |
Criminal but definitely on the path of nearly essential
|
| |
Dude get them all
|
| |
Good news.
|

This is how you write a news article

"This is how you write a news article"
yea tbh I feel like we should start pointing that out like this as these are rare haha. good stuff.
i've gotta re-listen to some of his stuff, been years. i dig the EP he did with omar too

Man the new song gives me a 'To record only water' vibe but with better production. I just hope that all the tracks on the E.P aren't short!
|
| |
Agreed. Some of his short instrumentals are incredible (Ramparts, With Love, Murderers) but yeah Glowe feels incomplete, like it could/should go for at least 4-5 minutes
|
| |
good shit
|
| |
love this dude
