Fontaines D.C. have released Tongue, the second single from their forthcoming fifth album, Dopamine Chamber, due October 16 through XL Recordings.
Following lead single Marianne, the track arrives with a video directed by John Angus Stewart, incorporating footage filmed by the band in New York City. The song received its live debut at Brooklyn's Kings Theatre on September 21.
Guitarist Conor Curley explained that the recording continued the experimentation explored on Romance, introducing conventional live-band instrumentation only when needed. Conor Deegan developed the bass part through tape-speed manipulation, while Carlos O'Connell processed Grian Chatten's vocals through a sampler and altered their pitch. The arrangement also incorporates guitars, piano, strings and orchestration.
Produced by James Ford, Dopamine Chamber follows 2024's Romance. Its eleven tracks include Where Is Gone?, featuring Rosalia, marking the band's first album collaboration with a guest vocalist.
