Mogwai have released Underground, a new collaboration featuring Iggy Pop, alongside news of their forthcoming compilation, Happy Tears.
Due January 8, 2027 through the band's Rock Action Records, the collection looks back over three decades of Mogwai's music, combining familiar tracks with rarities and new material.
Pop contributes vocals to Underground, with the sung part arranged by Matt Sweeney. He explained that the track's opening suggested the isolation of modern life and that its vocal arrangement suited someone willing to express their anger openly.
The standard thirteen-track edition includes Yes! I Am a Long Way from Home, Hunted by a Freak, Auto Rock and Ritchie Sacramento. It also features Brand New Paths to Helicon 1, a reworking of New Paths to Helicon 1, and closes with Underground.
Expanded editions add thirteen tracks, including previously unreleased recordings, remixes, live performances and rarities. An accompanying audio documentary, Happy Tears: The Story of Mogwai, is narrated by Matt Everitt and explores the band's history through their own accounts.
