Way past overdue
|
| |
It's the end of the world as we know it.
|
| |
Definitely a long time coming, but still pretty sad. They had a great run.
|
| |
Fuck everything about this.
|
| |
Damn, my heart literally dropped when I read this. But, it's certainly time. You will be missed.
|
| |
...might cry
|
| |
OMG NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
|
| |
Was only a matter of time tbh
|
| |
God fucking dammit.
|
| |
"It's the end of the world as we know it."
lol
|
| |
It's been a bad day.
|
| |

|
| |
And I feel fine.
|
| |
surprised this didn't happen sooner. my uncle will probably cry.
|
| |
godspeed
|
| |
Aside from Jane's Addiction. These guys were the kings of alternative music.
|
| |
This is unexpected
|
| |
never liked these guys. Although Ill pay my respects
|
| |
they've been phoning it in for a while but their material from 1982-1992 can't be fucked with
|
| |
rip
|
| |
God damn that sucks. Bad.
Murmur is still in my opinion quite possibly the greatest "alternative rock" album ever made. That album is brilliant enough that they could have quit after they made it and they'd still be legends to me.
Sad news. I hope this means that perhaps Michael Stipe will throw himself into something he has more passion for? A new solo project maybe? Who knows. Interesting to see where he and Peter Buck go from here though, if anywhere.
|
| |
Great Band. But it does seem like a good time to wrap it up. My first favorite song when i was a wee little lad was Shinny Happy People. True story. Cheers to R.E.M.
|
| |
"Hey Vicarious you're avatar seems to contradict your statement."
This might be the first time on this site that it has not been completely appropriate.
|
| |
NOOOOOOOO
|
| |
Yep. This sucks.
|
| |
sucks assholes
|
| |
two first commenters are fucking douches..
|
| |

What?
|
| |
shut up kitteh
|
| |
Never got into them too much, but they've created a shitload of music and their last album was a pretty awesome way to go out. It is a bit disheartening, but it was probably just about that time where they should have split.
|
| |
Past their prime as a band, that's for damn sure, but Collapse Into Now was still a great record, will miss being able to see these guys on a yearly basis
|
| |
A sad day, their last album was nothing espectacular but it looked like they were having fun again, but I guess they had it.
|
| |
Man, these guys were around forever.
They were pretty decent though.
Automatic For the People is a stellar release, though I haven't been a fan of the other stuff they've released.
|
| |
Seriously no one cares about this....? You guys are pathetic.
I really miss the 90s
|
| |
They were good
|
| |
biggest band split-up in a while
|
| |
It's the end of the world as we know it. [ 212331232312312312]
actually probably more realistically like [3]
|
| |
bummer
|
| |
Never liked them tbh, but oh well.
RIP.
|
| |
"R.E.M. have announced they are to split"
I guess they are now R......E......M.
amarite?
|
| |
I used to love these guys so much. This is sad, despite the fact that their last few albums have been pretty bad.
|
| |
With Collapse Into Now being only about half a year old this surprises me. Everything up to Automatic (and Hi-Fi) rules, obviously.
|
| |
R.I.P. to R.E.M.
|
| |
*sigh*
Such a sad piece of news... too bad their latest album sucked, I hate to believe that that album was their last effort before bowing out.
Awesome albums, songs & one of the greatest gig experiences I've ever had... I'll never forget that. Cheers R.E.M. for being a great band for all these years! *raises glass*
|
| |
lol creamcrazy sup
|
| |
This saddens me, but in all honesty they didn't seem to have much left to offer, Collapse Into Now was pretty poor. Absoloutly brilliant band though.
|
| |
Just another bunch of people Dave Grohl will join another band with. Meh.
|
| |
At least they walk away achieving something unlike shitty bands these days who quit because their trend has passed.
|
| |
Kind of knew this would happen but i did think sooner.
|
| |
Just another bunch of people Dave Grohl will join another band with. Meh.
Fuck that idea.
|
| |
This sucks.
|
| |
who next, U2?
|
| |
We can only hope lance...
R.E.M had phenomenal music and a great fanbase. They deserve their acclaim.
|
| |
good band
rip

What is with the U2 hate, why is that the popular hate bandwagon... U2 1980-1990 is pure magic, as with REM. Modern REM puts out shit albums yet they continue to get your support while U2 puts out decent albums and you hate them... Could someone explain why U2 sucks, I clearly don't get it..?
|
| |
Some of the better moments of my younger years were spent listening to Automatic for the People cruising down the highway. These guys will be missed.
|
| |
last 2 REM albums weren't that bad what are you guys talking about? U2 fucking sucks.
|
| |
gonna jump on a bandwagon now gonna take me to down to the south where da real boiz are
|
| |
good way to end a good band - very respectable
|
| |
U2 come off as elitist assholes (especially Bono) who continue to make lame, watered down bombastic anthems for mid-life crisis couples who go to their WORLD 360 tours and think they've experienced a real concert after watching the band from a mile away on giant television monitors.
|
| |
end of an empire. not an enormous fan, but what a loss.
|
| |
about damn time. no loss here
|
| |

I'll take exception with the 360 comment. I went to go see that and they put on a great show. And half the crowd was around my age (17). Haters gonna hate.
U2 from 1980-1991 can't be fucked with.
R.E.M. from 1980 - 1992 can't be fucked with.
|
| |
Finally!
|
| |
Also, Collapse Into Now was a 3.5, so not a bad note to go off on.
My only issue with this is that I never saw them live.
|
| |
Sad day
|
| |
"My only issue with this is that I never saw them live."
Honest Comment is Honest
And it burns my soul...
|
| |
Consider this
The hint of the century
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough
|
| |
Loosing my religion
|
| |
guess they ran Out of Time
|
| |
R.I.P R.E.M, you were on the simpsons like 15 years ago and that was the last time you were relevant.
|
| |
Great career this band had
|
| |
Few years too late, but a fucking great career.
|
| |
shame
|
| |
"31 years and 15 albums"
yeah
|
| |
Mum's gonna be pissed
|
| |
Losing My Religion is one of my favorite songs.
|
| |
p sad about dis
|
| |
Could never get into these guys 100%, but I respect them a ton.
RIP R.E.M.
|
| |
they were good like 20 years ago right?
|
| |
shame
|
| |
This is actually on Wikipedia's news section
|
| |
Never was a die hard fan but always respected this band.
Shame
|
| |
Sucks to know I'll never see them live.
|
| |
Sucks to know I'll never see them live.
Same. That performance of Losing My Religion on Youtube that has a billion views is one of the best live videos I've seen
|
| |
Sucks to know I'll never see them live.
I'm betting there'll be a reunion tour sooner or later.
|
| |
^Very probably.
|
| |
So few of the young people that go to WORLD 360 concerts actually care about U2
|
| |
I love these guys, always will, even if their later years were meh
|
| |
Finally...
|
| |
Sucks to know I'll never see them live.
Yep.
|
| |
Never understood why this band is so popular in the least bit.. very mediocre music to my ears.
But god 30 years that's a long time
|
| |
That's crazy
|
| |
"U2 from 1980-1991 can't be fucked with.
R.E.M. from 1980 - 1992 can't be fucked with."
huh?
R.E.M. have maybe two bad albums out of 15... U2 have maybe two good albums. "R.E.M. from 1980 - 1992 can't be fucked with." and then they went on to make great albums that split their fan base and won them tons of new fans. Then Bill Berry left and they made additional great albums that split their fanbase again that also gained them loads of new fans. You can't even compare the two groups. Stipe naturally is who Bono poorly attempt's to emulate and Peter Buck and Mike Mills are actually great musicians where as The Edge... not so much and I couldn't even begin to name any one else in that shit band.
If I ever run out of good bands to listen to maybe I'll give U2 a try again and maybe I'll agree with you. I'll let you know in about 80 years.
|
| |
"Sucks to know I'll never see them live.
Yep. "
One of the best shows I've ever been to. They played for like two and a half hours and it started raining during "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)".
|
| |

This is completely ridiculous from top to bottom.
