Van Halen Get Hall Of Fame Nod

2006-10-29 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 14 Comments
Van Halen have been nominated for induction to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Blabbermouth.net reports that Van Halen are one of three groups to receive their first nomination this year, though they themselves have been elligble for the past three. REM and the Ronettes are the other debutantes this year, joined past nominees Grandmaster Flash, Chic, The Dave Clark Five, The Stooges, Patti Smith and Joe Tex.

Induction to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is open to artists or groups beginning exactly twenty-five years after their first release. Though there are no other specific qualifications, nomination is limited to a handful of artists per year and fewer still are actually inducted.

The Hall Of Fame, physically located in Cleveland, Ohio, has come in for much criticism in recent years for what is perceived as a narrow focus on artists who broadly suit the tastes of the committee and don't necessarily reflect the true importance of certain artists. Pink Floyd remain the only progressive rock act in the Hall, and until recently there's been much made of the absence of certain hard rock acts, including Black Sabbath and Queen.

Rick James could not be reached for comment at this time.

Does this mean they're going to be in for sure? I've always wondered why Van Halen wasn't in it yet.

Does anybody think RHCP will be inducted in '09? If not, sometime not long after that?

Good stuff. Van Halen definitely deserve to be in there.

...I hope to see Metallica up for nomination in the coming years. It's been about 22 years since the release of Kill 'Em All.

I was really shocked when i found out that they were gonna put the Sex Pistols in there. DOnt they only have one cd anyways? plus they have like no talent.but i do really enjoy their music. This Message Edited On 10.29.06

One of my teachers last year used to be in a band who once opened for the Sex Pistols.

Ive been in the hall of fame, it really is narrow minded. Basically they stuck with the traditional view of rock and roll. Powerchord and heavy riff bands singing about drugs and sex, about 99% of the bands in there

The Hall Of Fame is a joke.

Only last year was Black Sabbath inducted, despite having been eligible for a decade. KISS, Van Halen, Alice Cooper, Rush and many others have been ignored by the Hall Of Fame despite having been MORE eligible than some of the bands that are in now. It's gotten to the point of being a joke and some of these people telling them shove it.

After all, these bands didn't need the Hall of Fame's help to be as legendary as they were, so why would they now? This Message Edited On 10.31.06
