Those songs sound nothing alike, especially when you consider how similar most pop music is by nature. If bands
can sue each-other over something like this, then everybody should be suing the shit out of each-other right now.
There aren't any strict guidelines with musical plagiarism, but suffice to say that even lifting riffs or melodies note-
for-note may not pass in the court of law as plagiarism... let alone chord progressions or melodies that are just
"kinda similar".
Let us recall Rob Paravonian's "Pachabel Rant" from youtube, shall we? This was something I noticed long before in
popular music, and is something I instantly notice in the majority of songs (he actually switches to the more-popular
4-chord circular progression near the end of the skit that i lovingly refer to simply as "the riff"). Even the vocal lines
are often the same, and if these guys aren't all suing each-other then really, who can?

A friend asked me the other day, "Is it true Nickleback aren't respected in the industry," to which I replied, "Well, it depends on who you ask, but their music is fucking generic as hell." Needless to say, the girl admitted to being a Nickleback fan. Surprised more radio rock bands aren't catching lawsuits, considering all the shit sounds like it was written by the same entity.
