Pumpkins name new producer

2006-08-15 by montague | 16 Comments
An official update on www.smashingpumpkins.com reads:

"The Smashing Pumpkins are currently in the recording studio with legendary producer Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, The Cars, The Darkness), at work on their first new album since 1999."
Other updates on the site have claimed that the album is currently slated for a (northern) Summer 2007 release date, with recording starting in (northern) Winter of 2006

While Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are both in the studio, there is still no confirmation of the presence of former guitarist James Iha or either of the pumpkins former bassists, D'arcy Wretzky or Mellisa Auf De Maur. However, in an update on his personal website, former Jane's Addiction bass player Eric Avery hinted that he may be working with the band, though in what capacity is not yet known.

The Smashing Pumpkins officially disbanded in 2000, after releasing their final album Machina/The Machines Of God. At the release of his solo album mid last year, Billy Corgan revealed his intention to reunite the pumpkins.

I just wanna know how people find out about this by going on the website... Did people still frequent it when they were dead?

I don't understand how they are saying the Pumpkins are back together on one hand and on the other saying there is no confirmation James and Darcy are on board. Corgan and Chamberlin did the Zwan thing for a while together, so was that Pumkins? I think not. I'm not interested until the other two members get in, despite their minor influences earlier in in the piece.

When SP were dead, the website would redirect to billy corgan's site, so now that it doesn't, it's obviously a sign.

Jimmy and Billy is all it takes to make an SP album anyways. James is kinda important I guess, but you'd be naive if you said he had a major impact on how the albums actually sound. And whoever plays bass is just there for image anyway, I'm hoping Melissa 'cos she's hawt.

Good news about the producer.

"Whoever plays bass is there for image"

I'm ashamed of you Kyle!

Personally I think they should shut the hell up about what producer they have, and tell us who the fĂșck is in the line-up.

Seriously it's killing me.

Haha, I'm sorry, but the Pumpkins just wouldn't be right without a female bassist. Neither Melissa or D'arcy contribute much to the Pumpkins sound except looking good on stage, so yeah, it's basically an image thing, Billy will write the bass parts (unless that's what Avery is doing).

Yeah, I know what you mean. But maybe they don't even know the line-up yet, they could still be holdin out for James.
