Iron Maiden To Release Free Album

2008-03-12 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 16 Comments
British heavy metal archetypes Iron Maiden will release their forthcoming '80s best of for free download in May- with a slight catch.

Somewhere Back In Time will be available for download from IronMaiden.com from May 12. Fans can then listen to the tracks three times before being given the option to purchase a DRM-free copy of the album.

Aw, I was excited about the free album, but I already have all these songs.

I just realized that that track listing would be a near flawless live set.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did that on purpose.

And hi5's to maiden even though these free discs will become gimmicky by the end of the year.

this is cool and all, but absolutely no incentive for anyone who's got all their albums to buy. has made me want to go back and listen to some old school maiden though!

Damn Id kill to see them again. The setlist theyre playing on this tour is epic. Oh yeah, theyre coming right down the highway in TWO DAYS, and I have a fucking swim meet!
And if you read their website, their manager says that this album is strictly for the "new" crowd of Iron Maiden fans that dont own all their albums.

it would certainly introduce new fans.
this is almost identical to the set they played when i saw them a while ago. i won't be buying/downlaoding it however.

Obviously fans are going to buy it. It's not so much about my personal criticism, I just don't like the idea.

Most fans bought the $5 or $10 verisons, which is hella good for 36 songs.

Couldn't you just change the track before it ends, so it doesn't pick up on it being fully played?

Obviously Run to the Hills is the only Maiden song anyone should ever like.

Run to the Hills isn't even in my top 3 songs for The Number of the Beast. Its a horribly overrated song.
The Number of the Beast and Hallowed Be Thy Name is where its at bitchez.

Hahahahaha, the free album is a greatest hits album. Hahaha.

and?
the point is to expose their earlier career to the younger, less informed listeners. If anything a greatest hits album should be priced decently because it has all their best songs. Giving them away free is quite nice.
