Axl Rose Breaks His Silence 2006-01-17 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 6 Comments | Axl Rose has broken a three-year old silence, speaking to Rolling Stone about topics as varied as the upcoming album, his former bandmates and Keanu Reeves, announcing "people will hear music this year."
Rolling Stone caught up with Axl at Korn's tour announcement party in LA; the band have just released their seventh studio album, 'See You On The Other Side.' Rose joined fellow rockers Good Charlotte, The Used and Buckcherry at the celebrity-studded bash and talked openly to the magazine's reporters.
Rose revealed with the new record he's "trying to do something different." He added, "Some of the arrangements are kind of like Queen. Some people are going to say, 'It doesn't sound like Axl Rose, it doesn't sound like Guns n' Roses. But you'll like at least a few songs on there." Rose has reportedly been working on the album for close to ten years, and studio bills alone are estimated to have cost his label, Interscope Records, thirteen million dollars. And that's not to mention the salaries he pays each of the six band members besides himself.
Casually brushing off a request of Papa Roach drummer Dave Bruckner to guest on the nu-metallers next album, Rose revealed more information on his own, more pressing, project: "We're working on thirty-two songs, and twenty-six are nearly done," he says. Of those, thirteen are slated for the final album. Among Rose's favorites are "Better," "There Was a Time" and "The Blues."
Rose partied and smoked cigars all night long, clearly revelling in the relaxed atmosphere; Rolling Stone reported he was less the 'mythical rock star' as he was the average guy. Rose agreed with the hypothesis, listing his hobbies as relaxing at home with a book or a movie. His favourite book is Philip K. Dick's A Scanner Darkly. "I was a little scared when I saw they were making it into a movie starring Keanu [Reeves]," he said. "But I guess if he can handle The Matrix, he can do this."
Brushing off any suggestion of a reunion, Axl maintained "I haven't spoken to Slash in ten years. I love the guy, I always wanted everyone to know how great he was, but.... I was just talking to Izzy the other day though."
As for a prospective tour? Rose remained tightlipped. "Every time there's a big festival announced, we get rumored to be on there," he said. "But we'll see what happens."

knowing axl...he'll fu-k this up some howThis Message Edited On 01.17.06
| | | How does Keanu Reeves keep getting work? I'm also wondering how it Axl took 10 years and over $10 million dollars to make twenty six songs.
| | | How did Interscope allow that? That's what I want to know.
| | | axl should just go his way and let v.r do there own thing, and its cool 2 maintain a friendship with izzy, but it should be left at a friendship and nothing musically, last time that happened it was so so so good, but he's doing fine with v.r
| | | I think either i misread your comment, or you're confused, but Izzy Stradlin isn't actually in Velvet Revolver. A full scale reunion would pretty much make me cream my jeans, but its almost guaranteed to never happen. Still....
