Spanish Love Songs Face Future 2026-09-04 by John Marinakis CONTRIBUTOR | 10 Comments | Spanish Love Songs have announced their fifth studio album, Future Nausea, set for release on November 6 through Pure Noise Records.
Produced by former Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla and Illuminati Hotties' Sarah Tudzin, the record follows 2023's No Joy and the 2025 collaborative EP A Brief Intermission in the Flattening of Time.
Vocalist and guitarist Dylan Slocum wanted the band to make its own version of a large-scale heartland-rock album while replacing the genre's usual nostalgia with political anger. Its songs address political violence, economic insecurity, environmental collapse and the unease of looking toward an increasingly uncertain future.
The announcement is accompanied by Good American, a deliberately minimal and forceful lead single inspired by the military veterans Slocum encountered while delivering pizzas to a VA hospital during the War on Terror. More recent reports about transgender soldiers being dismissed following military bans brought those memories back and helped shape the song's narrative.
Slocum described it as possibly the angriest song he has written, examining what happens when an institution exploits people's financial desperation in the name of patriotism before abandoning them when they are no longer useful.
