RIP Angry Anderson 2026-09-23 by John Marinakis CONTRIBUTOR | 4 Comments | Gary "Angry" Anderson, the longtime frontman of Australian hard rock band Rose Tattoo, has died at the age of 79.
His family and bandmates announced that Anderson passed away in Australia on September 21, surrounded by loved ones. They remembered his devotion to his family and requested privacy while they grieve.
Anderson had been hospitalized following a cardiac arrest while touring Germany in August, prompting the cancellation of Rose Tattoo's remaining European farewell dates. The family's announcement did not specify a cause of death.
Joining Rose Tattoo in 1976, Anderson became the unmistakable voice behind songs including Bad Boy for Love, Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw and We Can't Be Beaten. Their influence extended to Guns N' Roses, who recorded a cover of Nice Boys.
Outside the band, Anderson achieved international solo success with Suddenly and played Ironbar Bassey in the 1985 film "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome." He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 1993 for his work as a youth advocate, while Rose Tattoo entered the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006.
Slash and Sebastian Bach were among the musicians who paid tribute following the announcement.

RIP Angry. He was also in the trashy, but somewhat accurate Aussie comedy series Housos. Played a biker leader. Passed away just before Grand Final weekend here in Aus, infamously his performance of bound for glory, at the 1991 Grand Final, is among the worst opening act's you'd ever see at a sporting event.
My parents used to go see Rose Tattoo live at the local pubs around Sydney.
He was a fair dinkum bloke, from my own experience and others who met him, like my dad, and a former classmate of mine who toured with them with her own band.
