Dave Burgess Dead at 90 2025-11-20 by Iamthe Nightstars | 6 Comments | Dave Burgess, frontman of the rock band The Champs, passed away on October 19th at the age of 90. The Champs were most famous for their number one 1958 hit single "Tequila" which ended up selling over a million copies. Burgess had registered over 700 copyrights with BMI and has written songs for Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, and Glen Campbell among many others.
