One of the best to ever do it. It's been really tough seeing him deteriorate over the last decade, especially knowing all that he's been through. At least he's finally at peace.
| |
holy shit man this is sad, much needed rest he needs RIP
| |
Sly and Brian
2 60s legends from California who innovated psychedelic music who were all about expressing their troubled alienated feelings with strong emotional honesty.
God what a terrible week for music
| |
One of the most hard-hitting musician deaths for me… Pet Sounds got me through so many tough times in my life, and still stands as one of my all-time favorite records. Huge RIP
| |
RIP so hard.
| |
Sly and Brian in the same week, just horrible for the music community. RIP to another legend
| |
really glad i had about a year of the beach boys being one of my favorite bands ever before this happened but god fucking damn a knife is in my heart. greatest american songwriter hands down
please if you only know pet sounds use this as an excuse to dive into some of the other stuff like smile, surfs up, friends, today and sunflower. they have a looooooot of gems beyond just the big dog
| |
So true bubs. Will be spinning a lot of beach boys today.
One of my favourite pieces of media ever:

| |
Yeah, they have a ton of great records honestly. The overall discog is inconsistent for sure (Summer in Paradise is fucking ROUGH… though tbf, that’s more of a Mike Love vanity project), but the highs are absolutely incredible
| |
Smiley Smile is my personal favorite
It’s such a unique and disjointed album and still managed to be so warm and beautiful
RIP to a legend
| |
yeah between 15 big ones and summer in paradise things are unbelievably rough but thats mostly mike love and (hate to do my guy dirty but) al jardines fault for turning the band into a yacht rock act. the unhinged love you and unreleased even more unhinged adult child are major exceptions and are among the weirdest least commercial material this band ever made, for better or worse lol
| |
but if you are talking just like, 1963-1973, its all dope for the most part and they were churning out at least 1 album a year if not 2 at that point
| |
Looks like a Beach Boys run is in order for the next few days.
RIP
| |
Pet Sounds is one of the most brilliant pieces of music I've ever heard. Sly and Brian in the same week is tragic. Huge RIP.
| |
Another legendary, century defining musician and songwriter gone. RIP Brian.
| |
Tremendously horrible news, RIP to a legend
| |
This man was one of the finest composers of pop singles in the history of American music, and the release of Pet Sounds proved him to be one of the few to make the Beatles want to step up their game. The Beach Boys and especially Brian brought so many nuanced ideas to the studio, improving upon techniques of the late Phil Spector, with their influence still being heard (whether consciously or not) in modern recording. Unfortunately a combination of pressure from Capitol Records, tensions with bandmates, substance abuse, mental health issues and Brian’s unyielding perfectionism stunted what could have been one of the most revolutionary pop albums of the century in Smile. I encourage anyone to listen to the rest of their catalogue especially Today!, Smiley Smile, Friends, Wild Honey, Sunflower, Surfs Up and Holland. A true loss to the music world and one that affects me personally as a fan of his. Rest in Peace Brian, a genius of music.
| |
its honestly insane how ahead of the curve smile was in its construction, brian was basically tracking 16 bar suites and gluing them together the way you would compose in a daw today. so much of how he touched music was so revolutionary
| |
Wow rest in peace Brian.
| |
RIP king
| |
RIP
| |
noooo
RIP MY BEACH KING
| |
RIP to another GOAT
Sly and Brian in the same week are absolutely tragic losses
| |
this really fucked me up but I'm glad he's at peace after the life he had. hope he finally finishes his teenage symphony to god wherever he is now. RIP king
| |
A god damn legend. What a loss.
| |
Hard rip
| |
Brian Wilson was a major reason why I continued in choir in high school. Of all things it was being introduced to God Only Knows from its use in Bioshock Infinite. RIP Legend.
| |
RIP, gonna spin in memory, the only two Beach Boys songs I know from Good Morning Vietnam film score.
| |
RIP, will be jamming Pet Sounds in his memory
| |
RIP Legend.
What a year this as been.
| |
Damn, two legends gone in a row... RIP
| |
My earliest music listening experience was listening to Endless Summer. I would fall asleep with the cassette running in my boom box next to my pillow. RIP to a legend.
| |
Huge RIP. he was 83, thats a good life. Look at his body of work, thats a good life. Will be jamming him and Beach Boys all week
| |
RIP to the 🐐
| |
probably underselling it, but GOAT
| |
Responsible for creating some of the greatest songs in recorded history and being part of something that cannot be replicated.
Made it to a good age in a life that certainly had its fair share of difficulties.
| |
How long does Mike Love wait before he tries to cash in on this

RIP to a legend. Sad day.
| |
RIP hard.
| |
Incredibly sad. BW is easily one of my favorite songwriters/composers of all time, an absolute legend with a talent so strong it was practically a conduit to God. RIP to one of the very best to ever write music
| |
Yeesh RIP. Never been a Beach Boys fan, but their influence is over so much stuff I love and this is sad to hear regardless of any that
Inadvertently broke the news to my karaoke gang earlier and we crooned out God Only Knows in his honour
| |
I can hear the voices cracking from here (speaking from experience)
| |
listened to the Smile Sessions today rip
| |
Sad news. Rest in peace.
| |
Terrible news, guy was a fucking legend and he endured an awful life...
may he rest in peace...
| |
Damn .. Sly and now this….RIP Sir, Your legacy will forever be inshrined in music history, Brian Wilson was an absolute legend and just iconic. The Beach Boys’s music transcends generation’s for a reason. Pet Sounds is one of the greatest albums of all time. Godspeed!! Yes Beach Boys will be heavy in the rotation as the Summer begins..
| |
My grandma (dad’s mom) was one of Brian Wilson’s mental health nurses in Santa Monica back in the day. She died when I was pretty young. Would love to have gotten to ask her about that.
| |
Huge RIP. God Only Knows was my first dance song at my wedding
| |
Very tragic. RIP to a legend.
| |
Wow, massive RIP
| |
RIP but the Shortenin Bread anecdotes have me absolutely howling
| |
RIP
Everyone please listen to The Smile Sessions if you haven’t. Absolute classic
| |
its sad I never got to really get into the Beach Boys but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I cant think of a person that has had a bigger influence in as many genres of music than Brian Wilson, RIP to the goat.
| |
Grew up with my dad playing beach boys records non-stop around the house and every car trip. I still think God Only Knows is the best song of all time. He was an absolute legend of music, and this is the first time I've been properly affected by a musician or celebrity's death. RIP to the crazy bastard, this one hurts
| |
I have my Beach Boys month in March of every year and binge the hell out of them. Learned a whole playlist on piano. Thanks, Brian. ♥
| |
RIP Brian Wilson. Sunflower remains one of my fave albums from them.
| |
RIP to a true musical genius
| |
RIP
| |
Truly the Big Man of Music. Honestly thought he passed ages ago.
| |
my dad introduced me to them Beach Boys when I was a kid. Must have been one of the first bands I ever listened to, and I loved it.
RIP
| |
shit man, this is one of the biggest deaths in music in a while
| |
Al Jardine says he died peacefully in his sleep, that’s some comfort at least. Probably the best way to go out after a life of turmoil.
| |
loosing two pioneering music legends in the same week really sucks. Rest In Peace Brian & Sly
| |
RIP
| |
Big RIP
| |
havent been able to stop watching interviews of the man, outside of all his immense musical contributions he also came across so funny, humble and kind
| |
His bromance with Paul is amazing.
