Easily the best thing they’ve released with Emily, imo.
| |
they've clawed their way back to 2.5 territory. Clap hands.
| |
The vocals here are actually pretty good. The melody sounds like something Chester would do, but the singer actually sounds like herself instead of trying to copy his tone.
| |
This is just really boring and formulaic sounding IMO. But I haven’t cared about LP since Hybrid Theory so I really shouldn’t be here rn.
| |
mike shinoda is so fucking corny dude
| |
if mike is corny, emily is a cornfield
| |
replacing Chester with a scientologist will always be so fucking weird
| |
They should have stopped when Chester died. This is so uninspired and obviously a cash grab. Lyrics are terrible, song structure is typical. And nothing about this is interesting
| |
if mike is corny, emily is a cornfield [2]
| |
Eh, no.
| |
god it's so simple and cookie cutter I just can't listen to it seriously
| |
Her hooks are so weak, I'm still amazed that she got this job.
| |
Probably the best thing they've done since the new lineup.
| |
Why does it feel like the hook is rushed?
| |
Thanks, I hate it
| |
Better than everything on the awful new album.
| |
Yeah, aside from 'Two Faced' this is easily the best thing from the new era. It's hardly revolutionary, but there we go.
| |
If you’re comparing this to the later LP records, like Hunting Party and Last Light, it’s a masterpiece. At least they sound similar to the classic LP again. They were always an extremely simple and straight forward band, with great hooks and electronics and their nailing it here.
| |
Cold like a mountain top father never loved him mama shit his bed enough times that it's sunking
| |
I want my two seconds back
| |
“ If you’re comparing this to the later LP records, like Hunting Party and Last Light, it’s a masterpiece.”
Literally the first song on Hunting Party feels way more genuine and enthusiastic than the entirety of this era lol
| |
"Literally the first song on Hunting Party feels way more genuine and enthusiastic than the entirety of this era lol"
Massive agree, 'Keys to the Kingdom' was a hell of an opener compared to the flaccid, half-baked 'Emptiness Machine'.
| |
People wanting LP to return to old LP will forever be let down because anything they do to attempt reaching that territory will fall flat like this. It's almost in their best interest to try other things
| |
"Easily the best thing they’ve released with Emily, imo."
Easily one of the most generic songs this new incarnation of Linkin Park has come out with. Idk how you could come to such a conclusion. Maybe over time I'll learn to appreciate the melodies here but so far after one spin its extremely bland.
Most songs on the album where better.
| |
The band will never escape Chester's shadow. For the life of me, I cannot see how this band justified continuing under the LP moniker other than for the sake of money. I get it, it's a business and people gotta eat. But, artistically, it just doesn't make sense. And I'm not even a big LP fan (Hybrid Theory and Meteora kick ass and are the only things I cared about from this band), but this has never felt right.
| |
"Idk how you could come to such a conclusion."
Tbh Flug, From Zero felt like the most generic album this band could have ever put together, imo. Guess we're on two sides of the same coin, because this song is hardly stellar - I just like it more than most of the album.
| |
$hinoda
| |
It's all so out of touch like the way she sings "down, down, down" bopping her head to her poppy, almost sped-up Chvrches performance, makes it seem so obvious that all this band has left to stick with is their 2/5 ingredients catalogue of what LP used to be and they decided to stick with it bc just barely enough ppl be willing to post their gym training montage to this on instagram. Also what the fuck is that at 1:43

Quintessential radio rock
| |
from zero was basically chatgpt making a linkin park album
| |
I wish they made it less insultingly cringe.
| |
i think watching the video and seeing grown people apparently being into this (it is their music vid, but still) made things even worse than they seem, and the track sounds horrible. if this is the best they've done with the new singer then by all means let's surrender mainstream music to AI, at least chatgpt would have a more interesting take on this style
| |
In every single music video this woman dances like a sped up inflatable tube man.
| |
It's fine. I don't understand people who are pissed off the new shit doesn't sound like music they made 20 years ago and have never went back to for the subsequent 4 or 5 albums.
And most of those first two albums weren't killer tracks either.
| |
"In every single music video this woman dances like a sped up inflatable tube man."
I must admit, I never watch the music videos. Don't really care for them with most bands.
| |
"I don't understand people who are pissed off the new shit doesn't sound like music they made 20 years ago"
I really don't think that's why people are pissed off. It's the fact that the band went necro mode and carried on under the LP name despite the significant brainchild of the band having died and the fact that the new music is fucking bland and dime a dozen. Why stain the legacy of the band by making the most surface level music that lacks any sort of vision or identity.
I'm not even a big LP fan.
| |
This is so boring
| |
I know people love nostalgia but how could anyone care about this
| |
Imagine Dragons if they were bad.
| |
Chester was clearly the only actual musician in the band. This is beyond uninspiring
| |
Imagine Dragons aren't bad?
| |
heh
| |
wow i wonder how many corporate manhours and dollars went into this super rockin video with riot police and emily and mike really head bangin super hard wow
| |
"I know people love nostalgia but how could anyone care about this"
Some people "live" for nostalgia; there's a reason markets for music like this exist.
| |

'up from the bottom'
ooh matron
| |
How does the new mgk song sound more Linkin Park than Linkin Park does now?
| |
Because Eminem broke his brain during their beef and he switched genres.
| |
this does sound like an mgk song lmao
| |
They think this is the best song they've ever written.
Hybrid Theory disagrees.
| |
are they contractually obligated to include a Shinoda line for their singles?
| |
It's crazy how blind some artists are to their own work if that statement really is genuine @Dats. But I know for a fact that a lot of artists do indeed think that some of their worst is the best, and vice versa.
| |
If this was the best song they've ever written, Asking Alexandria would have peak songwriting in comparison.
| |
Hmm not sure I agree with that, AA was always one of the worst bands in history
| |
“ despite the significant brainchild of the band having died” pretty sure Shinoda has exclusively written every single LP song ever released though.
| |
Eh chorus could be nice if it the beat below it wasn't so ADHD. This really just feels like a bad AI mashup of their whole discography with a female vocalist
| |
Certainly matches most of the best singles from From Zero, doesn’t sound as forced as some of the other songs on the album. I’m in the camp of “like it, don’t love it,” but I can see this growing on me with repeat listens
| |
I think the statements are overcompensating for the backlash over the new singer tbh.
| |
Linkin Park was pretty cool when i was 12.
| |
Was cool when I was 10
| |
she doin some Jojo Siwa shit during the chorus
| |
I don't understand why people are acting like LP havent sucked for like, 15 years? they had 1.7 "good" albums that most people grew out of when they hit puberty.
| |
who's pretending tho -- we're all well aware. Band should have stopped after second album at best. I guess people were just hoping they would stop after Chester's death -- still stopping 15 years too late, but stopping. But nope
| |
average rise against song

rise against (suppressive persons)

💩

shit sucks

Hybrid Theory was great. Meteora was still good. Meteora had one or two good songs, The Hunting Party was fun as an exploration of LP doing a more raw and aggressive album. Everything else is largely forgettable.
| |
I will not abide by Minutes to Midnight slander in here 😤
| |
The undeserved hype is finally dying down and the general public are wising up. LP is having trouble selling tickets for their tour apparently
| |
Just such a weird choice for a new singer. Controversy aside she's so damn ordinary
Song is boring
| |
They should have just hired a guy
| |
or someone who isnt a rape apologist.
| |
or just have dissolved the band
| |
"Hybrid Theory was great. Meteora was still good. Meteora had one or two good songs, The Hunting Party was fun as an exploration of LP doing a more raw and aggressive album. Everything else is largely forgettable."
Nailed it. I guess everyone getting into them for the first time isn't aware of how quickly they were forgotten during M2M.
| |
Apparently they are having mass cancelations on some of their shows or something like that
| |
"The undeserved hype is finally dying down and the general public are wising up. LP is having trouble selling tickets for their tour apparently"
Because they released an entirely forgettable album that does absolutely nothing interesting, hoping that nostalgia alone would be enough to get things back to where they were 7 years ago, and now people are starting to realise it.
You can't expect to sail the high seas on a boat made of paper.
| |
"Nailed it. I guess everyone getting into them for the first time isn't aware of how quickly they were forgotten during M2M."
Not sure what this revisionist history is but you couldn't get away from LP when M2M dropped. Their songs were played non-stop during that album release and then Transformers boosted them even more. A Thousand Suns is when the spotlight started to fade.
| |
the singles on living things were completely inescapable as well.
i get disliking their music post-meteora but saying they weren't still releasing huge singles and albums for solid decade after that is complete revisionist history
i'd say the hunting party is precisely where they entered their "post-prime" from a commercial sense, with one more light being a clumsy failure at course correcting.
| |
Yeah I couldn't get through a shift at work without hearing Burn It Down at least 2 or 3 times a day for the entire summer of 2013.
| |
as for the tour downsizing... i think they way overestimated the amount of people willing to pay top dollar to see linkin park minus chester.
a dodger stadium show in particular is crazy. for reference queen seemingly play exclusively basketball / soccer arenas in the u.s. and queen is way bigger + not playing the majority of a new album with the controversial replacement singer nobody really asked for
| |
they really thought they were hot shit huh.
They’re not moving shit even here in STL. They just now have a deal for $40 a pop you can get a random seat, $15 cheaper than the nosebleeds. I’m sure the seats would be ass but that’s still kinda wild. I’ve never seen anything like that from Live Nation
| |
Given Up is literally famous for that 17 second scream why are we trying to pretend that M2M wasn't filled with famous bangers like HT and Meteora?
| |
Let's be fair, each of their albums has at least two good songs (From Zero doesn't count).
| |
Yeah but M2M has Given Up, Bleed It Out, What I've Done, and No More Sorrow which are all goated
| |
that album is mid at best, no amount of revision will change that
| |
Relinquished as I said I will not abide by Minutes to Midnight slander in here 😤
I don't care that ur music taste is good stop it plz
| |
About half of the songs there are awesome, so it's mid at worst.
| |
"Not sure what this revisionist history is but you couldn't get away from LP when M2M dropped. Their songs were played non-stop during that album release and then Transformers boosted them even more. A Thousand Suns is when the spotlight started to fade."
Yeah actually you're right. My bad.
| |
m2m is pretty boring and bad but quality's not what matters when it comes to chart performance and popularity
| |
Evidently even that ain’t so high, can’t even sell out a stadium what a bunch of fucking losers
| |
Could they even sell out a stadium before their comback? Like, i don't think anyone was rushing out to see one more light played live.
| |
I have always been a big LP fan so I should be more pissed off than most but the hate they are getting is way over the top.
From Zero was good and their best since A Thousand Suns....there I said it!
Yeah Emily is Cringe asf but as long as Mike is in the driving seat.....PIPE DOWN EVERYONE! Who hurt you ffs
| |
scientology is pretty harmful ngl
so are rape apologists
| |
these cats are cheesier and cornier than a mexican restaurant should've hung it up after chester topped himself
I guess if they're enjoying themselves and there are still people enjoying it then I should just live and let live
| |
Love when bands shoehorn some half baked narrative into their music videos. Adds absolutely nothing
| |
"From Zero was good and their best since A Thousand Suns....there I said it!
Yeah Emily is Cringe asf but as long as Mike is in the driving seat.....PIPE DOWN EVERYONE! Who hurt you ffs"
I'm a massive fan of the band, and speaking as a fan who has found something to enjoy in all of their albums... From Zero is easily their most forgettable studio effort. This isn't something that solely falls on Emily's performance.
The writing is weak, the instrumentation is bland, the ideas are uninspired, the production is questionable at times, and the overall experience feels like a bunch of recycled ideas from LP's previous work.
It's a bland, boring album.
| |
aight, next!
| |
What? From Zero is their most enjoyable since MtM...
But that single is boring af.
| |
I’m not gonna pretend to be an expert on their records, I don’t really remember a ton after Meteora, but gun to my head if you told me to pick the new record or one more light, I’d pick one more light.
| |
"gun to my head if you told me to pick the new record or one more light, I’d pick one more light."
Pretty much where I'm at, yeah.
| |
