Most overrated album
| |
^ who allowed this dude to make an account
| |
he's not wrong though! not most overrated album around but it's getting a surprisingly a lot of praise for being nothing that special. If not for Phil's insane vocals I'm not entirely sure people would be praising it nearly as much
| |
It's This is Exile-era Whitechapel which I think has surprised people considering their "evolution" on Kin and The Valley. People are just hyped to hear that the band still has an edge. To me its a style of deathcore that is too homogenous so all the songs sound the same. I can pick out songs from The Valley because they're distinct from one another. Hymns is all one big deathcore slog for me.

| |
Skill issue, album fucked my wife (it was awesome)
| |
Album's great haters keep hating
| |
Whitechapel is saving the trve deathcore defecit
| |
I think what happened is all the MySpace-era deathcore kids got sick of the new generation heaping praise on Lorna Shore for writing a giant mess carried solely by whats-his-face's gross vocals, and they're just glad to have an evil deathcore band that knows how to write riffs back in the fray.
| |
Lorna Shore are terrible agreed
| |
yea the riffs are quite dull on this.
| |
I kind of agree that it's overrated. It's way too homogeneous. They accomplished going back to their roots, but it doesn't matter when the listener can't tell the tracks apart. It's nice to hear something that doesn't have keyboards or a bunch of electronic effects. Just a solid slab of Death Metal/Deathcore. Furthermore, I am also in agreement that the most hype surrounding this has to do with Phil's vocals. It is his best vocal performance to date imo. 6.9/10
| |
yea the shear heaviness is fun but it is all drums, production and vocals, the guitars feel like background.
| |
There’s tons of riffs and the tracks are easy to tell apart agreed. Wonderful album
| |
Sometimes I wonder if people take the time to listen to these albums on something other than their phone speakers. There's so much depth on this record sonically between the riffs, drumming, lead guitar work and bass. Album is fantastic, video for this song is fuckin electric
| |
Yeah I wonder the same, and also wonder the same when people complain about production sometimes. Especially streaming off of YouTube lol
| |
Yeah yeah Phil Bozeman is a great vocalist blah blah. Even his vocals can’t save this album from being a complete snooze fest for the first 9 tracks.
WHERE ARE THE FUCKING RIFFS?
You want to make the album heavy as fuck? Sure go nuts, but it’s gotta actually, you know, sound good?
It’s only in the final track that we get something that sounds **slightly** less bland than the 9 tracks before it, and people are raving about it because of the little bit of melody sprinkled into the closer 🙄
| |
Production is great agreed
| |
see, that’s why I said “who allowed this dude to make an account”
| |
It's mediocre deathcore at best
| |
And you're a bitch
| |
And you're a tiny brain moron
| |
I’m convinced some people just have tinnitus
| |
The first single ruled, I know that much.
| |
To dude and anyone else that is asking if people listen to music on things other than their phone. I listened to this on a $400 soundbar. My rating remains the same. I even sat there and tried to force myself to love it. I'd rather listen to almost any one of their other albums besides maybe the debut and Our Endless War. I still gave it nearly a 7/10
| |
Every man below 40 likes this record. If you don't, it's an age or gender issue. Tough luck!
| |
Fun little chuggy number here. This kinda sounds like what I wish ABRB followed Allegiance up with. Phil's vocals are a highlight here for sure.
Could use a little more infighting up in this comments pit though.
| |
^^^^I kinda tried
