RIP Peter Brötzmann 2023-06-23 by I AM NOT ZIG | 18 Comments | German musician Peter Brötzmann, considered one of the most prominent saxophonists in free jazz, died on Thursday at the age of 82, his agent confirmed to Deutschlandfunk Kultur radio.
In March, the saxophonist collapsed upon returning from performances in Warsaw and London, which required resuscitation and intensive care, which kept him from the stage at that time, according to a post on Facebook.
In the 1960's, he released the remarkable "Machine Gun", still ranked as one of the most relevant records of the genre. Brötzmann's discography is as extensive as the list of musicians he has played with, ranging from Evan Parker to Anthony Braxton, Keiji Haino or Ronald Shannon Jackson, Sonny Sharock and Bill Laswell, with whom he formed the group Last Exit.
