they were in too deep
| |
whens the reunion planned for?
| |
as much as im probably not the audience for sum 41 these days, they were genuinely a huge band for me when i was a teenager, so its certainly a little sad to see them go. im glad they were able to last this long and deryck was able to get himself clean.
| |
All disappearing no reappearing
| |
jesus christ 27 years of sum 41.
| |
This should've happened after they released Chuck
| |
this feels pretty out of nowhere ngl. didnt see it coming at all
| |
Oh no….
Anyways
| |
It’d be cool if they would acknowledge that Steve Jocz existed now.
| |
All Killer No Filler was the first album I ever bought and my parents though he was saying “BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT” during fat lip and they turned it off in the car
| |
hate to break it to yall but sum41 isnt punk lolz
| |
damn thats crazy here i was thinking they were a pop punk band all along
| |
oi oi oi
| |
“ my parents though he was saying “BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT” during fat lip and they turned it off in the car”
This sentence pretty much explains your entire existence as a person
| |
Damn. Glad that I'm atleast getting to see them before they call it quits. These dudes still put on a show.
| |
Truly a loss for the scene. They'll go down as the Clash of their era. We'll all remember where we were when we read this news.
| |
Looks like I'm gonna frost my tips one last time
| |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6N1PciZxAkM

maybe they stopped laughing when old people fall
| |
“They'll go down as the Clash of their era. We'll all remember where we were when we read this news.”
Good content
| |
CHUCK still so Underrated by them.
| |
Saw them live in their prime a couple times and they were great
| |
First cd I ever bought
| |
They tried to be perfect, it just wasn't worth it.
| |
Truly a loss for the scene. They'll go down as the Clash of their era. We'll all remember where we were when we read this news.
| |
they were cool back in the day, but no big loss in 2023
| |
if yall had voted for them on trl we wouldnt be suffering this loss today
| |
kind of a shame, but you know, 27 years is a damn good run, so I'm glad they're gracefully taking a bow like this
hope the individual members will keep on making music though
| |
Huh I didn't know they were Canadian. They were on the radio 24/7 in the early 2000s here.
| |
These guys had riffs
| |
i used to really spin these guys back when i was like 10 or so
| |
no y
| |
an irreplaceable band
| |
"27 years is a damn good run"
Their wiki says they did around 300 gigs every year. Not sure how accurate that is but damn if it is they've earned retirement after 27 years.
| |
One of the first bands I actually listened to damn
| |
Chuck and Infected slapped
| |
Huge band in their day, enormous
| |
"Chuck and Infected slapped"
[2]
Not gonna lie, I also kind of liked a few songs off of Underclass Hero too. My first band ever in high school was pretty much just a Sum 41 and Paramore cover band. I always talked shit on them after the fact, but my hypocrisy comes to me at night when I end up listening to them after a few cold ones. Good career when all is said and done.
| |
27 years, and still only known to many for two songs they wrote over two decades ago. That's got to suck.
| |
As lame as some of their more recent releases have been, they were my first favorite bands and I still love to revisit their early material. I saw them live for the first time about a decade ago and had a blast. Hopefully I can do so one more time on this last tour. Same with NOFX coming up here.
| |
All Killer / Infected / Chuck = great albums
| |
"Chuck and Infected slapped"[3]
Of the the few pop punk bands that actually wrote riffs
| |
These guys had some really fun albums back in the day. Even their most recent LP is surprisingly decent. Still, there's no denying that they're far past their prime. I hope that final album they're working on allows them to go out with a bang.
| |
didn't realize this hadn't already happened tbh. hugely formative band tho
| |
Chuck
| |
Who am I kiddin who am I foolin when they be like "what's up Fatlip" and I say coolin
| |
Maybe Deryck's actually going to join Linkin Park
| |
i always loved all the small things
| |
just punched myself in the mouth in honor
| |
don't forget to listen to that shartstain artwork album to calm down your long-fried nervous system
| |
Chuck and Infected slapped [4]
curious enough to check the final double album. Should be half poppy and half metally
| |
Definitely an early gateway band for me into heavier stuff when I was a kid, but haven’t listened to them regularly probably since Chuck
| |
this is so sad
| |
Storm Math: if they stay together through 2024 thats 28 years together and the final album will be their 13th LP/EP/Live album, which is a sum of 41.
| |
I win Spuntik for May.
| |
Chuck and Infected slapped (5)
| |
14 counting the greatest hits I think
Which means they need to call it in 2023
| |
Argh. Hope they quit in 2023 lmao
| |
We have room to decide if a greatest hits is worth counting lol
| |
Sad news, but no huge loss in 2023. If this news came out in 2003 the world would have collapsed lol
These guys and Blink had their time.
| |
everyone ignore storm right now!
| |
But why 🤨
| |
their brightest moment was when they performed master of puppets live on headbangers ball lol
| |
Pika and flug are both confusing me
| |
^ not reading that
| |
very good
| |
That is still an acknowledgement. Are you trying to inspire me to get to 100,000 comments in a week?
| |
I miss storm. Sometimes it feels like he's still here, amogus.
| |
Im still here! Set an anianic beam at its highest level and flood sputnik and youll see me!

Half Hour, AKNF, Infected, and Chuck all slap ridiculously hard. Especially Infected and Chuck.
| |
So am I
Still waiting
For a reunion maybe
| |
i thought they stopped after underclass hero
| |
xingking is right
| |

Dang. Should've gone to see them last time they were here
| |
cool
| |
Had no idea they were still together
| |
I'm sure they were as shocked as the rest of us
| |
Helllloooooooooo
| |
Storm Math: if they stay together through 2024 thats 28 years together and the final album will be their 13th LP/EP/Live album, which is a sum of 41."
ill write the email
| |
Thanks
| |
why does avril lavigne come to mind right now? did she date someone from this band
| |
She married the singer. He cheated
| |
Although their latest few albums after Underclass Hero didn't really appeal to me any longer, it's still always bittersweet to see a band that I grew up on go on their way. It's been a good ride!
Hopefully they go out on a good note with that double album.
| |
Too bad. Teenage Dirtbag was such a great song. Good band.
| |
NOFX then these guys...hmmm seems to have a pattern here. 27 years is a good fun run though. A lot of pop punk bands can't reach more than 10 yrs.
| |
'Too bad. Teenage Dirtbag was such a great song. Good band.'
lmao
Didn't even know these guys were still "together".
| |
they're gonna reunite as soon as they realize their only substantial paycheck comes as a result of performing fat lip every other night
| |
Wonder if they're getting any royalties from the likes of that and/or 'In Too Deep'. Them shits were all over the place twenty years ago.
| |
Credit where credit's due, they've been really going non-stop since then. They've been putting out records usually once every 2-4 years save for a bit of a dip in the early 2010's when I believe there were health issues affecting things (which in many ways helped revitalize the band to bigger heights).
I'm a fan just as much as anyone else of their older stuff, but I really do appreciate their more recent stuff too. "Order in Decline" was excellent beginning to end. Really looking forward to their new record, certainly will see a performance in their final tour, and all of them deserve the break. I write 'break' because there's no doubt they'll probably reform again in maybe 5-10 years from now and either do a reunion tour and/or record.
| |
I do wonder if the long term health implications of Deryck's liver nearly completely giving up 10 years ago may have been a contributing factor. Maybe he just can't deal with the physical demands of being in a touring band full-time anymore? It does take a lot out of you and given how fragile he was for a while it might just be too much now, so go out with a bang on their own terms before it really starts affecting him on a day to day level.
| |
There's plenty of youthful energetic bands that have said touring was too much for them and touring is like half the part of being a band so I could see the toll being the reason to call it quits. They still gotta go another 14 years to get the sum of 41 though so
| |
I listened only to 1 of their songs on repeat, Noots. Don't know why that song was the only one that clicked for me.
| |
Noots rules
| |
I had a warped tour cd with a live version of Crazy Amanda Bunkface and that was my Sum 41 song on repeat when i was like fucking 12 or some shit
| |
Deryk sold off the Sum 41 discography recently so that probably is dictating this choice to some degree. He mentioned it in a recent interview.
| |
