Not sure what's up with the link above but here's another one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d55ELY17CFM
Verses are kinda weak, and the verse lyrics are literally nursery-tier rhymes but the chorus progression is solid. Definitely one of the better Muse choruses I've heard in a while. And the aggression is certainly a nice change of pace
| |
Not a big fan of the verses but I'm actually intrigued to hear the new album now and I haven't felt that way since black holes. The heavier riffs reminded me of Stockholm Syndrome. But the verses are a little too imagine dragons
| |
link is working for me
this is the best song of the year for sure yeah nothing can top this
| |
Smack my ass and call me Susan.
| |
at least bellamy has found his guitars again
| |
well at least this sounds better than anything on simp theory
| |
Link is fine. Song is shite.
| |
Remember when people used to defend this band?
| |
The ‘heavy’ part just sounds like a nod and a wink. Absolutely nothing organic about how this band writes music anymore.
| |
sounds like nu metal + r&b flavored rock, lame.
| |
damn this actually rules
| |
meh
| |
The band's heart is in the right place by ramping up the heaviness again, but the verses here are awful and the riffs are very flat. The chorus is great. We'll see what the album brings, but this is just alright.
| |
Something about Muse's songwriting on newer songs just doesn't work. This has all the elements of a great muse song from Origin of Symmetry but I just feel like it doesn't go anywhere.
Also am I the only one who found Matt Bellamy's vocal performance on this track utterly lifeless and kinda buried in the mix?
| |
that was intense
| |
The problem is that their lyrics have descended to the point of banality (and they were never particularly original to begin with), they lack drive/purpose (whereas their older stuff was very politically motivated), and since the last time they pieced together a cohesive album was Black Holes, any heavier stuff just feels like a cheap trick to draw fans back into another horrible electro-pop exercise.
| |
best muse track since T2L era
| |
But that was an awful era
| |
one of the worst things i think i've ever heard
band has been complete and utter cringe for well over a decade
| |
I tried to like this band at their peak, but couldn't do it.
| |
At their peak (OoS --> Black Holes), this band was incredible. Arguably one of my favorites ever. However, it was a sharp and sudden fall from grace and they've unfortunately never recovered.
| |
I might be broken, but I actually like this.
| |
IMO this is Bellamy's least annoying vocal performance maybe ever. And this has riffs. I might even end up listening to this album if this is a good indicator of how it sounds.
| |
I was not amused
| |
How (a)musing
| |
@Sowing: Yeah I remember Absolution being released, that was so exciting at the time and despite it being quite different from OoS I loved it just as much. Black Holes too back then, it wasn’t quite everything I wanted but there were some choice cuts and I played the thing to death. These were huge events for me.
Now I only check their newer material out of curiosity, a feeling of obligation to my past self and that tiny glimmer of hope that they might become marginally respectable again. I no longer hold out much hope of that ever happening, it’s been a good while since that hope evaporated tbh.
| |
not heard this yet mind, we’ll see
| |
sounds kinda like poppy covering imagine dragons. :l
| |
I legit burst out laughing when the heavy parts happened. That's a good sign!
| |
Bring Muse the Horizon and I'm for it
| |
I feel sorry for the fans of this band...
| |
I feel sorry for muse at this point
| |
Just wasted 4 minutes of my life...
| |
Solid choruses, song sounds alright. Didn't like the film clip. The main character reminds me too much of the guy that gets eaten by the pigs in silence of the lambs
| |
better than anything they've put out in about two decades.
still pretty shit, though.
| |
As someone who's only listened to Absolution this is confusing the shit out of me lol
How did they go from that to Imagine Dragons tier pop rock?
| |
what the fuck is this
| |
I can't fucking stand the mixing on the verses. Shocked to see some people actually enjoy it. I guess people think "earsplitting bass = better sound"?
| |
The lyrics are absolutely hilarious. It feels like reading screenshots of a text convo
| |
lmfao for real
this song was awful enough that i immediately backtracked to Drones out of morbid curiosity, and the opener sounded like the best thing i had ever heard. i guess falling into a downward spiral means that all your work ages well relative to what comes next
| |
Sounds pretty lifeless and dull to me. As someone else said here, the heavy part just feels like "Hey, we're doing the heavy stuff again, just the way you liked it two decades ago!"
I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's this feeling that a committee is writing these songs to appeal to certain demographics instead of a band letting their creative juices flow.
| |
this is horrible
| |
metalcore twitter is getting all hyped for this, so i checked it out.
i wish i didnt
| |
Not the worst thing ever ig but goddamn this band has really lost the plot huh
| |
yeah, they lost the plot after Supermassive Black Hole
| |
hey, this isn't awful
| |
This was unexpected for sure. Interesting stuff.
| |
It's not completely fucking awful I guess, but to all the ppl pointing out how this has riffs: What are your standards these days? these are some of the blandest riffs you could hear in 2022. "Plug in baby" has riffs, "Hysteria" has riffs. These are some generic metalcore riffs you would find in a practice book.
| |
I can't tell my best friend cause this is his favourite band in the whole wide world but i fucking hate this band and their vocals
| |
this sounds like AWOLNATION and the lyrics hahaha what the fuck
| |
stupid double post
| |
is this a BMTH song, unironically?
Gotta be honest, I dig it lol
| |
wow those jump the fuck up riffs in the chorus go HARD
| |
"The ‘heavy’ part just sounds like a nod and a wink. Absolutely nothing organic about how this band writes music anymore"
Agreed
| |
screams?
| |
This is so disjointed it’s not even funny and I say that unironically whilst Loathe are my favourite band
| |
lmao
| |
Unexpected video thumbnail did give me a chuckle
The last minute of the video did nothing but make my eyes hurt
| |
As a pretty invested Muse fan I’ve come to terms we’re never getting peak Muse back but for modern Muse I actually dig this track. No sense in looking for deep lyrics anymore. This song is how I wish the rest of Drones sounded after Dead Inside. apparently the producer of the new album recently tweeted “#ITGETSHEAVIER” so we’ll see what that means.
Also, Resistance >>> Black Holes & I’m tired of the disrespect.
| |
track kinda slaps ngl
| |
I'm game for heavier Muse, I just hope the songwriting keeps up. Also, for whatever the record is worth, Muse never had deep lyrics so much as compelling ones.
| |
that riff is the coolest thing Muse has done in years, chorus is solid and that verse kinda sucks. still, most intrigued I've been by Muse in a while
| |
Yeah I'll absolutely take it over most of their recent stuff, although Drones is still pretty underrated.
| |
sound is good
songwriting is trash
| |
Anything is better than Simulation Theory, really.
| |
Best thing they’ve done in a while but still not great
| |
This was so close to being the best thing they’ve written in just over 15 years, it was just that weak-ass chorus letting it down.
Matt seems incapable of writing a song that doesn’t have some sort of operatic theme to it.
| |
I normally go pretty easy on these guys but this was ass
| |
Great song tbh
| |
It's a big improvement over Simulation Theory, but compared to the band's peak - or even highlights from Drones (Reapers, The Handler) - this falls pretty flat. The fact that "it gets heavier" is promising, though.
| |
This sounds like AWOLNATION singing a STARSET song.
| |
There is no need for Muse to still exist in 2022. Who forgot to press bottom to activate the nuclear bomb?
| |
there is no need for any music to exist
| |
Yea, music is an obsolete concept
| |
You gotta be
You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard, you gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together
| |
Beeeeeest
You must beeeee theee beeeest
And you must change the wooorld
And uuuuuse thiiiiiis chaaaaance to be heeeeeeeeard!
Yooooour tiiiiiiiime iiiiiis noooooooow
| |
anat that song slaps
| |
Neutron Star Collision was better
| |
This song is trash, but also is good, but then it's unbereable, but then a nice riff.
I'm conflicted.
| |
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream vibe.
| |
...
| |
